  • Patent number: 7860219
Abstract: A cathode shield can comprise a shield body, a pair of tabs for defining a focal spot length, and a lip for concentrically aligning the cathode shield relative to a mounting element and/or an electron source of a cathode assembly. The tabs may be integral with the shield body and spaced a distance apart from each other. The distance may at least partially define the focal spot length of the electron source associated with the cathode assembly. The lip may also be integral with the shield body and extend from the shield body around at least a portion of a perimeter of the shield body so as to define a recess that is configured to receive the mounting element of the cathode assembly.

  • Publication number: 20030153023
Abstract: This invention is directed to an optically-based method and system for analyte detection using solid phase immobilization, specific analyte labels adapted for signal generation and corresponding processes for the utilization thereof. The enumeration detection method disclosed herein narrows the area for signal observation, thus, improving detectable signal to background ratio. The system is comprised of a platform/support for immobilizing a sample stage having a labeled sample (analyte complex) bound thereto, a radiation source, an optical apparatus for generating and directing radiation at said sample and a control that obtains data and then conducts analyses using digital image data. Upon engagement of the system, the sample generates a signal capable of differentiation from background signal, both of which are collected and imaged with a signal detector that generated a sample image to a data processing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20030040021
Abstract: Devices and methods for performing assays to determine the presence or quantity of a specific analyte of interest in a fluid sample. In devices according to this invention two separate flow paths are established sequentially in the device with a single user activation step. The first flow path delivers the analyte of interest (if present in the sample) and conjugate soluble binding reagents to the solid phase. If analyte is present, an analyte:conjugate complex is formed and immobilized. The volume of sample delivered by this first path is determined by the absorbent capacity of the solid phase, and not by the amount of sample added to the device, relieving the user from the necessity of measuring the sample. The sample/conjugate mixture is prevented from entering the second flow path because the capillarity and the surface energy of the second flow path prevent it from being wetted by this mixture.

  • Patent number: 6436722
Abstract: Invention performs an assay to determine presence or quantity of specific analyte in fluid sample. Representative device has two separate flow paths established sequentially in device with a single user activation step. First flow path delivers sample, and conjugate soluble binding reagents to solid phase. If analyte is present, an analyte:conjugate complex is formed and immobilized. Sample volume delivered by first path determined by absorbent capacity of solid phase, and not by amount of sample added to device. User need not measure sample volume. Sample/conjugate mixture is prevented from entering second flow path because capillary and surface energy of second flow path prevent it from being wetted by this mixture. Second flow path allows wash reagent to remove unbound conjugate and sample from solid phase to the absorbant, and optionally deliver detection reagents.
