    Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine has a piston head, a pin boss with pin bores, and a piston skirt. The piston head has a combustion bowl, a ring belt with ring grooves, a circumferential cooling channel, and at least one diverter rod connected to the ring belt and extending into the cooling channel. The diverter rod diverts the spray of cooling oil within the cooling channel to achieve more uniform and efficient cooling of the piston during operation.
