Patent number: 9700112Abstract: A protective system for electronic devices has a plurality of corner protectors interconnected by pairs of removably securable rails. The corner protectors may include an indentation on a surface thereof for receiving and seating the corner of an electronic device. The dimensions of the protective system relative to the electronic device define a protective perimeter such that if the device is dropped on a substantially planar surface the sides and front or back surface of the electronic device are protected from direct contact. The protective system may be used in conjunction with an attachment mechanism which is securable about one or more pairs of rails of the protective system to allow mounting of the protective system to items and surfaces such as a rail mount accessory of a firearm.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2014Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Inventor: Scott W. Patent number: 8572881Abstract: A modular system for mounting firearm accessories includes a first accessory mounting member attachable directly to the firearm accessory and a second firearm mounting member to which first accessory mounting member may be removably joined. The first and second mounting members are frictionally engaged with interlocking barb(s) and a retention pin. One or more of barbs project from the first mounting member, each having a substantially rounded tip and a tapered or gradually decreasing diameter shaft, and are received within a complementary shaped aperture on the second mounting member. A retention pin disposed within a transverse channel in the second mounting member, and having corresponding area(s) of reduced diameter along the shaft thereof, is removably secured against the barb(s) at a right angle thereto when the barbs are received within the second mounting member, frictionally securing the two members together.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2011Date of Patent: November 5, 2013Assignee: Samson Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Scott W. Patent number: 8448367Abstract: A modular fore-end rail assembly for mounting onto a firearm includes a hand guard and a bushing element that combines with an end portion of the hand guard to encircle the standard barrel nut, thereby supporting the entire assembly without requiring modification to the standard barrel nut. The thermal transfer characteristics of the material from which the bushing element is manufactured may be selected to either increase or decrease the rate at which heat is transferred from the barrel nut to the hand guard allowing for rapid changes of bushing elements and, therefore, rapid and selective changes in the heating rate of the hand guard.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2011Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Samson Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Scott W. Samson, Jonathan Bernashe

Patent number: 8276304Abstract: A modular fore-end rail assembly for mounting onto a firearm includes an upper hand guard, a lower hand guard and a clamping member that combines with the rear portion of the upper hand guard to encircle and clamp onto the barrel nut thereby supporting the entire assembly from the front of the upper receiver and preventing any transfer of load into the barrel. The lower portion of the hand guard is slidably received into channels formed in the upper hand guard and is retained in its installed position by a spring biased detent located in the clamping member. The lower hand guard is removable by simply depressing the detent and sliding the lower hand guard forward. By providing for the easy removal of the lower hand guard, other auxiliary devices may be mounted to the upper hand guard.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2006Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Inventors: Scott W. Samson, Kenneth Lankarge

Patent number: 7793452Abstract: A modular fore-end rail assembly for a firearm is disclosed. The assembly includes an upper handguard having forward and rearward ends. A dovetail rail extends between the forward and rearward ends. Opposing sidewalls extend outwardly and downwardly from the dovetail rail, respectively. The sidewalls terminate in mounting channels. The rearward end includes a first clamping member. A clamp is removably secured to the rearward end and cooperates with the first clamping member to engage a barrel nut of a firearm. The clamp has an exterior surface including a slidable locking pin movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. A lower handguard includes sidewalls that extend outwardly and upwardly. The sidewalls terminate in mating formations that are configured to be slidably received in the mounting channels. A lock aperture is provided at a rearward end of the lower handguard.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2009Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Samson Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Scott W. Patent number: 7367152Abstract: A pivoting accessory mount used for attaching auxiliary devices such as sighting devices to a firearm. The accessory mount includes a base member that attaches to the firearm and includes a mounting support and a shaft. An accessory receiver is pivotally received and retained about the shaft. The accessory receiver is pivotable between an inactive position along the side of the upper receiver of the firearm and an active position extending substantially vertically relative to and in alignment with the upper receiver of the firearm. The mounting shaft is linearly displaceable, thereby engaging the accessory receiver when in the active position to prevent accidental displacement of the accessory receiver.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2006Date of Patent: May 6, 2008Inventor: Scott W.
