    Abstract: A mitral valve staple device treats mitral regurgitation of a heart. The device includes first and second leg portions, each leg portion terminating in a tissue piercing end, and a connection portion extending between the first and second leg portions. The connection portion has an initial stressed and distorted configuration to separate the first and second leg portion by a first distance when the tissue piercing ends pierce the mitral valve annulus and a final unstressed and undistorted configuration after the tissue piercing ends pierce the mitral valve annulus to separate the first and second leg portions by a second distance which is shorter than the first distance. The device is deployed within the heart transvenously through a catheter positioned in the coronary sinus adjacent the mitral valve annulus. A tool forces the mitral valve staple device through the wall of the catheter for deployment in the heart.

    Abstract: Apparatus and a method are provided for guiding the seam allowance of a seamed joint of a fabric into alignment longitudinally with a seam sealing tape applied to the seamed joint within a consolidation nip, all to effect a leakproof seal of the joint. The apparatus includes guide means positioned proximate the consolidation nip, adjacent the entrance thereof, the guide means having an opening therein to and through which the seam allowance is passed. The opening is of a size sufficient to accept and guide the seam allowance passing therethrough. The opening is preferably a slot, the open end of the slot being positioned adjacent the seamed joint and aligned with the tape as the tape and joint pass to and through the consolidation nip. The guide means optionally includes co-acting shock absorbers.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a conduit that provides a bypass around an occlusion or stenosis in a coronary artery. The conduit is a tube adapted to be positioned in the heart wall to provide a passage for blood to flow between a heart chamber and a coronary artery, at a site distal to the occlusion or stenosis. The conduit has a section of blood vessel attached to its interior lumen which preferably includes at least one naturally occurring one-way valve positioned therein. The valve prevents the backflow of blood from the coronary artery into the heart chamber.

The stent is self-expanding or uses a balloon to expand the stent in the heart wall. Various attachment means are provided to anchor the stent and prevent its migration.

    Abstract: The present invention generally relates to methods and apparatus for use in endovascular and intraoperative procedures providing arterial blood flow for perfusion of ischemic myocardium. Aspects of the present invention provide a conduit between a non-coronary sinus of the aorta and a coronary vein. The conduit traverses a portion of the right atrium and the coronary sinus, and is located entirely within the heart and aorta. Arterial blood flows from the aorta through the conduit and into the coronary venous circulation towards the ischemic region of the heart. All procedures described herein may be performed endovascularly, and further may be performed while the patient's heart is beating.
