  • Publication number: 20050078640
Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving a packet data control channel in a mobile communication system that transmits packet data and has the packet data control channel for transmitting control information related to transmission of packet data are provided. A receiver receives and despreads a signal on the packet data channel and a signal on the packet data control channel, separately outputs the signals, and estimates a noise of a received signal. A signal level detector receives a noise estimation value and samples of the packet data control channel signal from the receiver, and outputs a validity signal for detecting whether information is received over the packet data control channel. A packet data control channel decoder decodes the packet data control channel signal if the validity signal received from the signal level detector is valid.

  • Publication number: 20040243904
Abstract: A device and method for rate matching channel-encoded symbols in a data communication system. The rate matching device and method can be applied to a data communication system which uses one or both of a non-systematic code (such as a convolutional code or a linear block code) and a systematic code (such as a turbo code). In one aspect, the rate matching device includes a plurality of rate matching blocks, the number of the rate matching blocks being equal to a reciprocal of a coding rate of a channel encoder. The rate matching device can rate match the symbols encoded with a non-systematic code or the symbols encoded with a systematic code, by changing initial parameters including the number of input symbols, the number of output symbols, and the puncturing or repetition pattern determining parameters.

  • Patent number: 6792041
Abstract: A data rate detecting device detects a data rate for a received signal based on a variation of the energy for the respective received signals between the two adjacent intervals upon failure to receive information about the data rate, and performs channel decoding of the detected data rate information. First, the data rate detecting device divides an interval defined as between a lowest and highest one of a plurality of given data rates into m discriminating intervals. Then, the device calculates a difference between an average energy of received signals up to an i'th discriminating interval and an average energy of received signals for an (i+1)'th discriminating interval, wherein i is an integer is less than m. If the difference between the average energies is greater than or equal to a threshold value, the device determines that the received signal in the (i+1)'th discriminating interval is transmitted at a data rate corresponding to the i'th discriminating interval.

  • Patent number: 6697986
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for transmitting a sequence of information bits and sequences of parity bits to a receiver in a transmitter of an HARQ transmission system. A turbo encoder receives a sequence of L information bits, and generates the sequence of information bits and M sequences of L parity bits for the information bits, wherein M is determined depending on a transmission code rate. A redundancy selector includes the sequence of information bits in an initial data block during initial transmission, and uniformly includes non-transmitted parity bits out of parity bits provided from each sequence of the parity bits in a retransmission data block upon every receipt of a retransmission request from the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20030188252
Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving control information transmitted from a transmitter using one of a plurality of slot lengths in a high-speed packet transmission mobile communication system is provided. The apparatus and method includes a decoder adapted to receive symbols by the slot, and generate at least one bit stream by decoding as many symbols of at least one possible slot length among a plurality of slot lengths according to a previous decoding result. An error checker adapted to perform error checking on the bit stream from the decoder. A controller is adapted to provide symbols of one more consecutive slot to the decoder, if the error checking failed, and acquire control information from the error checking-passed bit stream, if the error check passed. The decoder is further adapted to output at least one frame quality metric for the bit stream along with the bit stream.

  • Patent number: 6323788
Abstract: An interleaver for a serial concatenated convolutional code (SCCC) encoder is disclosed. The interleaver has a memory with m row groups and n column groups, and the memory stores serial input symbols in the groups. The interleaver randomly selects one of the m row groups, then randomly selects one of the positions in the selected row, then outputs the symbol stored in the selected position in the selected row so as to generate interleaved symbols. The SCCC encoder includes a component encoder for encoding the interleaved symbols from the interleaver. The encoded codes of the component encoder have an effective free distance. When the number of the serial input symbols is k, the m row groups and n column groups in the memory are chosen such that m×n≧k, and m is larger than the effective free distance.
