  • Publication number: 20070167306
Abstract: A folding apparatus includes a folding blade cylinder that carries at least one group of identical tools which are distributed homogeneously about the periphery of the folding blade cylinder. A cam plate is traced or followed by a control lever of each such group of tools and is usable to control a working movement of the tool. A cover disk, consisting of a plurality of cover cams, can be rotated. The cover cams of the cover disk are displaceable between an inactive position, in which they enable the control of the working movement by the cam plate, and an active position in which they prevent such movement. Two groups of tools are used on the folding blade cylinder and the cover cams form a first group of cams at an angular distance of between 60° or 120° to each other, and a second group of cams at an angular distance of between 90° to 180° to each other.

  • Publication number: 20070042888
Abstract: A cylinder, which is part of a folder, includes a cylinder body with at least one gripper that can be moved between a retracted position within the cylinder body, an extended position, and a clamping position in which a tip of the gripper presses flat material against a surface section of the cylinder body. A pivot axis, about which the gripper pivots between its retracted position and its extended position, is within the cylinder body. A counterthrust element, which cooperates with a separate cutting blade, to cut the flat material which is to be gripped by the gripper, is associated with the cylinder body. The gripper is situated upstream of the counterthrust element, in the rotational direction of the gripper cylinder. A second axis, about which the gripper moves in the peripheral direction of the cylinder, is also provided. Both of these axes are fixed in relation to the cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20060231996
Abstract: A rotary folder includes two cutting devices for cross-cutting at least a first web. The cutting devices are cutting or counter cylinders that can rotate together and that define gaps in conjunction with a conveying cylinder. A path of web conveyance runs through each of these gaps. The conveying cylinder or the cutting cylinders support at least one blade for cutting of a product from the webs. The conveying cylinder comprises a retaining device for retaining a cut-off signature and for conveying the signature through the respective gap. The conveying cylinder or the counter cylinders comprise thrust bearings that interact with the blade.

  • Publication number: 20060191432
Abstract: A puncture or gripper cylinder is provided with at least one puncture strip that is provided with gripper pins or point needles. These pins are extendable from the cylinder to puncture and to grip a signature. At least one deflector is carried on the puncture cylinder and is extendable and retractable with respect to a surface of the cylinder. The deflector, when it is extended at least temporarily shields the signature from subsequent pins.

  • Publication number: 20050159285
Abstract: A folding device includes a first partial cylinder and a second partial cylinder. These two partial cylinders form a cylinder body. The two partial cylinders are rotatable relative to each other and each partial cylinder includes first and second groups of functional elements distributed around the circumference of the partial cylinder. Each of the first and second partial cylinders is provided with its own dedicated drive motor to accomplish the rotational movement of each partial cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20050103174
Abstract: A cutting device is used to accomplish the transverse cutting of at least a first material web. The cutting device includes a cutting cylinder and a first counter cylinder. These two cylinders rotate cooperatively and define a first gap through what a first transport path for the first web runs. The cutting cylinder has at least one cutting blade, that cuts a product off the web passing through the gap. The cutting cylinder also has a holding device for holding a cut product and for transporting it through the gap. The counter cylinder comprises a thrust bearing cooperating with the cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 5049120
Abstract: In a adapted folder for folding sheet products there is provided a combination having two knife cylinders with shear action knives of which one has pins adjacent to its knives for holding cut off trimmings of product, and a suction duct whose opening extends around part of the periphery of the cylinder with the pins. A high degree of operational reliability may be achieved without weakening the structure of the pin cylinder if compressed air nozzles are arranged in a row alternating with the pins and supplied with compressed air by timing means so that air flows from the nozzles when they register with the suction duct opening.

  • Patent number: 5004451
Abstract: A folder comprising a knife cylinder adapted to be driven at a rate independent of the speed of the web being supplied, a mating cylinder adapted to cooperate with said knife cylinder in cutting a web into sections at a cutting nip and which is provided with grippers for the leading edges of the sections, and a belt conveyor belt trained around a part of the circumference of said mating cylinder following said nip. It is possible to ensure more accurate production and greater reliability if the folder is so designed that it includes at least one of the cylinders delimiting said cutting nip and having suction or blowing ports placed following the cutting means, such ports being adapted for causing a flow of air towards the cylinder having said grippers.

  • Patent number: 5000433
Abstract: A folder, and more particularly an adjustable folder for web feed gravure presses, comprising a collect cylinder able to be set for collect runs and non-collect runs and provided with holding elements (preferably in the form of grippers) and tucking blades having actuating elements preferably in the form of follower rollers which are operated by a respective cam, whose active cam part, which is preferably in the form of a recess, is adapted to be selectively exposed and covered over by means of a covering means, which is coaxial to the cam and is provided with drive cam elements which are mounted on cam element carriers coaxial to the cam and are able to be driven. In order to achieve a high degree of adaptability as regards different types of collect operations the covering cam elements of the covering device are mounted on the cam element carrier in such a manner that they may be radially adjusted.
