Abstract: There are disclosed a 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazine derivatives represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl group, a phenoxy group, or a halogen-substituted phenoxy group; n is 0, 1, 2 or 3; Y represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atom, provided that the case where both of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen atoms is excluded, and a herbicidal composition containing the same as an active ingredient, useful for combatting weeds.

Abstract: There are disclosed N-benzyl-2-(4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylphenoxy)butanoic amide represented by the formula: ##STR1## and a herbidical composition containing the same as an active ingredient.

Abstract: There are disclosed a herbicidal composition containing, as an active ingredient, a phenoxyalkylamide derivative represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein X, n, Y, Z, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 have the same meanings as defined in the specification, and a method for controlling weeds by the use of the same. The herbicidal composition according to this invention shows a superior weed-killing activity by pre- and post-emergence treatment in soil.

Abstract: There are presented new diphenyl ether derivatives having a substituent selected from a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl group and a methoxy group at the 4-position in one phenyl moiety, having optionally also halo-substituents at the 2- and 6-positions, and having a nitro group at the 4'-position and a substituent selected from an unsubstituted or substituted (1,3-dioxorane-4-yl)methoxy group, an unsubstituted or substituted (1,3-dioxa-5-cyclohexyloxy) group and an alkyl- or (substituted)amino-sulfonyloxy group at the 3'-position in the other phenyl moiety. They exhibit improved herbicidal effects on various weeds without any adverse phytotoxic effect on crops, e.g. rice seedlings.

Abstract: New diphenyl ether derivatives having one to three substituents selected from a halogen atom and a trifluoromethyl group at any optional one to three positions of the 2'-, 3'-, 4'-, 5'- and 6'-positions in one phenyl moiety and nitro group at the 4-position and unsubstituted or substituted aminosulfonyl group at the 3-position in another phenyl moiety. They have a superior herbicidal effect and can be prepared starting from a known 3-benzylmercapto compound through three steps.
