  • Patent number: 4946242
Abstract: An optical part for light transmission comprises a light conductor formed of a core of a transparent material and a clad of a material having a smaller refractive index than that of the core material, and a light emitting and/or receiving element, wherein the light emitting and/or receiving element is integrally combined with the core of the light conductor by a same material as the core material or by a material having a same refractive index as that of the core material and having a greater rigidity than that of the material forming the clad and/or jacket. The optical part can be used in a high temperature environment as well as a room temperature environment without involving any appreciable loss in light transmission.

  • Patent number: 4873030
Abstract: There is provided a resinous optical transmitting element in which a core, through which light is transmitted, is formed into a predetermined non-linear configuration, and a cladding lower in refractive index than the core is in close contact with the core. A method of manufacturing the optical transmitting element comprises the steps of polymerizing polymeric material forming the core, within a mold having a predetermined non-linear cavity, subsequently removing the mold, and forming the cladding about the core. The resinous optical transmitting element obtained by the method can be formed into a selected one of various configurations in compliance with the purpose. In addition, the resinous optical transmitting element is less in distortion, making it possible to reduce the transmission loss.

  • Patent number: 4505546
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device is disclosed in which a liquid crystal material mixed with a dichroic dye is held between a pair of substrates whose facing surfaces are provided with electrodes, so that a picture element is made up of a pair of facing portions of the electrodes and a portion of the liquid crystal material sandwiched by the facing portions, in which a reflecting plate is adjacent to one of the substrates, and in which at least one of the substrates is formed of a birefringent material having slow and fast principal axes of birefringence. In the above device, an angle between the direction of the absorption axis of the dichroic dye and one of the principal axes of birefringence of the substrate is selected so that the contrast and viewing-direction characteristic of the device can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4490496
Abstract: A coating composition comprising (A) a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition temperature of 0.degree. to 80.degree. C., (B) a compound having 2 or more hydroxyl groups in the molecule, (C) a thixotropic agent and (D) a solvent, and said coating composition having a viscosity of 3 to 50 poises at 25.degree. C. and a thixotropy of 2 or more can give a moistureproof insulating coating film with uniform and large thickness and very few bubbles by one-time treatment over packing circuit boards.

  • Patent number: 4284662
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a color picture tube of the type comprising the steps of coating phosphors of three primary colors on the inner surface of the face plate of the color picture tube to form dots or stripes of the phosphors, applying an acrylic resin emulsion on the dots or stripes of the phosphors to form an acrylic resin film, vapor depositing metal onto the film to form a metallic reflecting film, subjecting the acrylic resin film to a pyrolysis for decomposing it into gases, and removing the gases, the acrylic resin emulsion comprises a plurality of emulsions respectively containing conventional acrylic resin and normal butyl methacrylate resin. The normal butyl methacrylate resin is mixed with the conventional acrylic resin at a ratio of 5 to 40% by weight.

  • Patent number: 3957916
Abstract: A process for preparing a thermoplastic resin composition comprises subjecting a cross-linked rubber obtained by copolymerization of an acrylic ester represented by the general formula CH.sub.2 = CHCOOR, wherein R is an alkyl group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and a cross-linking agent to graft polymerization with a polymerizable vinyl or vinylidene monomer in the presence of polyvinyl chloride resin particles through radical polymerization. The present disclosure also relates to a process for preparing a mixed composition comprising the thermoplastic resin composition prepared above and a powder of polyvinyl chloride resin. The thermoplastic resin composition has good weather-resistance properties and good mechanical properties. As the thermoplastic resin composition can easily be mixed with a polyvinyl chloride resin, a polyvinyl chloride resin composition having excellent properties is obtained by simple mixing operation.
