Abstract: An image reading device includes a housing including a support that supports a document, an opening and closing (O/C) member supported to rotate around a rotary shaft between an open position at which a top surface of the support is exposed and a closed position at which the top surface is covered by the O/C member, a reading member included in the O/C member to read the document, a processing unit included in the housing to process information read by the reading member, a connecting member electrically connecting the reading member and the processing unit, and a protective member whose first end is rotatably supported by the O/C member and that accommodates the connecting member in its internal space while being supported in a state of hanging from the O/C member and in a state where its second end is supported while not being constrained with respect to the housing.

At least one of the first rotating member or the second rotating member is provided with projections and recesses at both ends thereof. The projections and recesses are alternately arranged in a circumferential direction. The projections extend continuously from a rotating member body in an axial direction and have a diameter greater than that of the rotating member body. The recesses extend continuously from the rotating member body in the axial direction and have a diameter smaller than that of the rotating member body. The projections at one end of the rotating member body and the projections at the other end of the rotating member body are at the same positions in a circumferential direction.

Abstract: A recording-medium transporting and reading apparatus includes a reading member that has a reading portion for reading an image; a first transport-path forming member that faces the reading member and has a first surface which forms a transport path portion for a recording medium together with the reading member; a second transport-path forming member that forms transport path portions on the same side as the first transport-path forming member and has a second surface and a third surface which form the transport path portions on the upstream side and downstream side, respectively, of the first transport-path forming member in the recording-medium transport direction; an urging member that urges the first transport-path forming member toward the reading member; and a restricting portion that restricts the movement of the first transport-path forming member so that a predetermined distance is maintained between the reading member and the first transport-path forming member.
