  • Patent number: 9527252
Abstract: A method of making an eyewear frame having substantially rigid sections joined with a soft and/or flexible nose bridge. The substantially rigid sections and soft and/or flexible nose bridge are made in separate molding processes. The cured substantially rigid sections and cured soft and/or flexible nose bridge are then joined together in a further molding process by injecting a bonding material into interfaces between the soft and/or flexible nose bridge and the respective substantially rigid sections. The eyewear frame may be painted. A pre-painting surface treatment may be applied to the soft and/or flexible nose bridge before it is joined with the substantially rigid right and left sections.

  • Patent number: 5077449
Abstract: An electrical cable having a jacket surrounding a metal shield which, in turn, surrounds the cable core. The jacket comprises a polyolefin with a modifier provided by a carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof with the jacket lying in intimate overall contact with an outer surface of the shield and being bonded by the modifier throughout the overall contact areas to the shield.

  • Patent number: 4980001
Abstract: In a method of applying a jacket to a metal shield of a cable, the jacket comprises a polyolefin having a modifier provided by a carboxylic acid or its anhydride. As the jacket extrudate passes onto the shield, air pressure is lowered at the surface of the shield to provide intimate overall contact between jacket and shield. Heating, additional to that provided by the extrudate, is employed to raise the outside bonding temperature of the shield up to at least the bonding temperature of the modifier so as to provide a bond between the jacket and the shield.

  • Patent number: 4904323
Abstract: Making jacketed pipe using metal strip coated with a plastic coating compatible with the jacket material. After the strip is formed into tube by turning over longitudinal edges of the strip, the jacketing material is then extruded onto the tube under an extrusion pressure insufficient to cause tube collapse. This is conveniently done by the known "tubing" process. Subsequent to the extrusion step, the jacket material is subjected to radial inward pressure also insufficient to cause tube collapse. This pressure reduces the outside diameter of the jacket and presses it against the coating on the tube. The inward pressure step is performed while residual heat from extrusion remains at the inner surface of the jacket to fuse the jacket to the plastic coating. Inward pressure is preferably applied by a polishing die.

  • Patent number: 4753002
Abstract: A metallic strip and a cable core are advanced together along a passline through conventional apparatus for wrapping the strip around the core to provide a partially formed shield around the cable. The shield and core continue along the passline through apparatus according to the invention for closing the shield around the core. This closing apparatus includes a support roller for supporting the shield and core on the passline, shield engaging members resiliently urged against the shield to hold flanking regions of the shield against the core as the shield is closed, and edge region guide means for urging edge regions of the shield in overlapping relationship onto the core. The edge region guide means are radially adjustable relative to the passline to accommodate different cable diameters.
