  • Publication number: 20140201766
Abstract: Viewing history regarding one or more instances of media content is generated for subsequent analysis. The viewing history is developed based on recording timestamps associated with one or more instances that viewing of the media content is interrupted, paused, terminated, etc. The timestamps can be supplemented with metadata associated with the media content (e.g., media title, genre, duration, actor, actress, etc.) along with information collected from the communication system conveying the media content. By data mining the timestamps in conjunction with other pertinent data it is possible to determine why a viewer may not have viewed the media content in its entirety, as well as recommend future content. Analysis of the viewing history can be performed in conjunction with previously stored viewing histories, along with other viewers viewing histories, etc., to gain a broader understanding of a viewing history for a given media content.

  • Publication number: 20140059388
Abstract: Technologies are generally described for systems and methods effective to provide an automatic diagnostic data collection system to facilitate diagnosis of technical problems associated with computing device and to facilitate the analysis of marketing and performance metrics of the computing devices. When a user of a computing device calls or accesses a help desk and/or call center, data can be automatically collected from the computing device to allow the help desk operator quickly and accurately diagnose the problem. If no error is specified, general diagnosis data including results of a trace route between a server and the computing device can be collected. If an error is specified, error logs associated with the error can also be collected. The data can be filtered based on a diagnosis request and transferred to the relevant technical support system.

  • Publication number: 20140047562
Abstract: Providing for client-selected user authentication in relation to accessing or acquiring online media content is described herein. In response to an access request transmitted by a client device, a server can determine a type of request employed by the client device and identify a type of media playback device associated with the client. Identification can be based on information specified within the access request, information derived from information pertaining to the access request, information derived from stored associations between access request and types of playback devices, or suitable combinations thereof. Once identified, promotional content or service(s) can be allocated to a subscriber account in response to the access request satisfying one or more criteria. In this manner, a service provider can facilitate client-selection of a mode of user authorization, while incentivizing a particular type of playback device for acquiring content from or generally interfacing with the service provider.

  • Publication number: 20130298155
Abstract: The subject disclosure provides for user account authorization in conjunction with online multimedia television content services. By way of example, a network-enabled television device can request a video identification code in response to a power-on event. A set of video data comprising a picture of a distinct identification code can be received from a network server in response to the request. The video data can be played on a video display of the television device, to facilitate verifying that a user or viewer of the television device maintains a subscription account associated with online multimedia television services. Upon successful verification, the television device can be linked with the subscription account, and promotional content or services associated with the verification can be allocated to the subscription account.

  • Publication number: 20130139196
Abstract: Providing for automated network-related user authentication in conjunction with video on demand streaming media services is described herein. A network-enabled media playback device, such as a television, can be configured to initiate a network process in response to being powered-on. The network process can facilitate access to a network data store, where stored data indicative of authorization status of one or more user accounts can be obtained, and used for loading account preferences associated with a user. Where no accounts are authorized, a login and authorization message is sent to a communication account associated with the network-enabled playback device to facilitate authenticating and logging a user into the network-enabled playback device. Particular aspects provide for filtering media content based on user preferences and account profile information, and displaying a subset of preferred content, or automatically initiating playback of a selected media program for the user account.
