  • Patent number: 5611987
Abstract: A process for producing biaxially drawn plastic bottles having excellent heat resistance and an apparatus therefor. The process comprises a step of biaxially drawing and free blow-molding the preformed article to obtain a secondary molded article thereof, a step of heating the secondary molded article by inserting it for 0.3 to 5 seconds in the infrared rays emitted from an infrared-ray radiation member that has a substantially planar radiation surface having a height larger than that of the secondary molded article in the direction of height and having a surface temperature of from 350.degree. C. to 1000.degree. C., in order to obtain a tertiary product thereof that is shrunk, and a step for blow-molding the tertiary product that is in a heated state in a metal mold to obtain a final molded article. A single metal mold is used for blow-molding to shorten the time occupied by the metal mold and to produce the bottles having excellent heat resistance maintaining high productivity.

  • Patent number: 5250335
Abstract: In preparing a draw-blow-formed polyester vessel, the inner surface and outer surface temperatures of a starting preform are adjusted at specific levels at the preliminary heating step, and the drawing speed in the circumferential direction is adjusted at a level of at least 350%/sec and a specific relation is established between the area draw ratios on the inner and outer surface sides at the draw-blowing step. A polyester vessel having a reduced shrinkage with time and a high pressure-resistant strength is obtained according to this process.

  • Patent number: 5180893
Abstract: This invention relates to a heating method for forming a thermoplastic bottle in which a heating member is inserted into the interior from a preform made of a thermoplastic material or the bottle and the preform or plastic bottle is heated by the heating member and a heating device located externally so as to thereby heat the same simultaneously internally and externally thereof, the temperature of the respective heating member being controlled respectively. Radiant heat energy distribution is variable along the longitudinal direction of the heating member so as to carry out the heating process in conformity with the bottle to be formed so as to manufacture the plastic bottle with high quality.

  • Patent number: 4919984
Abstract: An improvement in a packaging multilayer plastic container comprising a gas-barrier interlayer of an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and an inner and an outer layer of a moisture-resistant thermoplastic resin such as a polyester sandwiching the interlayer. An intermediary layer comprising particles of a high water-absorbing resin dispersed in a resinous medium is provided between the gas-barrier layer and each of the inner and outer layers. Crosslinked polyacrylic acid or its salt or a vinyl alcohol/acrylic acid (salt) block copolymer, for example, may be used as the highly water-absorbing resin. Because of its high saturation moisture absorption at high temperatures, the highly water-absorbing resin is effective for preventing degradation of the gas-barrier property of the ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer during retorting.

  • Patent number: 4913945
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of a heat-resistant polyester hollow formed body, which comprises mounting a preform of a thermoplastic polyester composed mainly of ethylene terephthalate units, which is maintained at a temperature where high-speed drawing is possible but whitening can be prevented, especially at a temperature represented by the following formula:T=K(100.multidot.IV-8.multidot.DEG+42) (1)wherein IV stands for the intrinsic viscosity (dl/g) of the thermoplastic polyester, DEG stands for the content (% by weight) of diethylene glycol units in the thermoplastic polyester, k is a number of from 0.95 to 1.05, and T stands for the temperature (.degree.C.
