  • Patent number: 7586986
Abstract: Disclosed is a system decoder of a digital TV. Particularly, the system decoder brings about the effect of remultiplexing packet data input from different channels by giving an ID to each channel, using it as an extension field of a packet ID (PID) and an extension field of a table ID of a section that are defined in the ISO/IEC 13818-1, and storing the channel ID information in the buffer transmitting packets and outputting them. Further, a memory allocated to each component can be operated without channel discrimination through the extension fields and the remultiplexing effect. Moreover, it is possible to minimize the time and cost taken to modify hardware and software so as to apply a PID filter or the like designed in a single channel to a decoder ASIC supporting a plurality of channels.

  • Patent number: 7012961
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding a bit stream encoded in a digital camcorder (DV) format is disclosed. The method includes a preprocessing step of detecting a position of an EOB (end of block) of respective DCT blocks using length information of a variable-length code of a bit stream encoded in the DV format, and a step of redefining a processing order of the DCT blocks according to the position of the EOB detected at the preprocessing step, and performing a variable-length decoding with respect to the respective DCT blocks in the redefined processing order. The blocks that can be processed are preferentially transmitted according to the detection of the EOB in transmitting the bit stream to the variable-length decoder, and thus the delay that may be produced when the whole block is sequentially processed can be minimized. Also, since the decoding is performed through redefining of the processing order of the DCT blocks, a storage device only for one DCT block can be used.

  • Patent number: 6930728
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for converting image signals from an interlaced scanning format to a progressive scanning format are disclosed. Additionally, an apparatus and a method for changing a vertical scanning rate of progressively scanned image signals are also disclosed. Field motion estimator estimates field motions between a current field and reference fields to find an optimal reference field. Then a field motion compensator restores a missing line of the current field using information given from the optimal reference if the optimal reference field unevenly matches to the current field. Otherwise, a linear interpolator restores the missing line of the current field by linearly interpolating lines located adjacent to the missing line in the current field. Furthermore, a frame motion estimator estimates frame motions between adjacent frames using the progressively scanned image signals and field motions estimated in the field motions estimator.

  • Patent number: 6674799
Abstract: An apparatus converts a screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3 to a screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. When the input image is given as a frame buffer that is not encoded, the present invention extracts motion vector by performing block motion matching operation, and when the input image is a digitally encoded bit stream, it extracts motion vectors from the decoded data. The motion vectors are subjected to filtering in terms of time and space. The apparatus extracts global motion information from the motion vectors that have been filtered. Utilizing the global motion information extracted from and the partial images from the adjacent frames, the present invention generates the image information that is displayed on the blank regions of the screen. The blank regions on left and right of the screen caused by the differences in the screen aspect ratios are composed from the actual image information.
