  • Publication number: 20090281812
Abstract: Encoding and decoding apparatuses and encoding and decoding methods are provided. The decoding method includes extracting a plurality of encoded signals and division information of the encoded signals from an input bitstream, determining which of a plurality of decoding methods is to be used to decode each of the encoded signals, decoding the encoded signals using the determined decoding methods, and synthesizing the decoded signals with reference to the division information. Accordingly, it is possible to encode signals having different characteristics at an optimum bitrate by classifying the signals into one or more classes according to the characteristics of the signals and encoding each of the signals using an encoding unit that can best serve the class where a corresponding signal belongs. In addition, it is possible to efficiently encode various signals including audio and speech signals.

The decoding method includes extracting a plurality of encoded signals from an input bitstream, determining which of a plurality of decoding methods is to be used to decode each of the encoded signals, decoding the encoded signals using the determined decoding methods, synthesizing the decoded signals, and restoring an original signal by performing a post-processing operation on the single signal. Accordingly, it is possible to encode signals having different characteristics at an optimum bitrate by classifying the signals into one or more classes according to the characteristics of the signals and encoding each of the signals using an encoding unit that can best serve the class where a corresponding signal belongs. • Patent number: 7250979
Abstract: A format converting apparatus and method for performing a resolution conversion, frame rate conversion, scanning method conversion, aspect ratio conversion, chroma format conversion, color space conversion, gamma correction, and geometric correction in one chip are disclosed. A digital TV can process various video signal standards such as the digital TV signal, the analog TV signal, the computer video signal, and the component signal as well as other video signals of more wide range in a same block. More especially, since all format conversion is performed in one chip, new additional input signal does not make addition of the hardware so that the cost can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6754278
Abstract: A method for recovering a moving picture in which an error occurs provides a more efficient and accurate recovery by enlarging a range of a damaged slice to include regions of undamaged slices adjacent to the damaged slice. Particularly, damaged macro blocks within the damaged slice may be upwardly and downwardly extended. Motion vectors for the extended portions are obtained and used to establish a search region within a previous frame. A closest match for the extended macro block is located within the search region and a portion thereof is replicated to replace the damaged macro block.

  • Publication number: 20030123554
Abstract: An MPEG-2 video decoding system is disclosed, which is applied to a digital TV or a digital video conference. In the present invention, ‘I’ or ‘P’ as a reference frame is reduced in a horizontal direction at 1/2, and then is stored in an external memory. Meanwhile, in a case of ‘B’ picture which is not used as a reference frame, ‘B’ picture is reduced in both horizontal and vertical directions by 1/2, so that ‘B’ picture is reduced at 3/4, and then is stored in the external memory. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce memory at 50% to 62.5% and to maintain a good picture quality in the present invention. Also, field information of the vertical direction is maintained, thereby decreasing drift errors during decoding MPEG video.

  • Patent number: 6442201
Abstract: The disclosure is a down conversion decoding device of the digital television having an effect capable of obtaining a picture of the high quality no less than that of the full-memory version while reducing the size of the memory, by changing the size of the required memory according to the type of the frame to be input after the DCT coefficients are horizontally filtered. Furthermore, if the display format is the sequential scanning, there is no need to perform the vertical filtering and decimation for the I and P frames thereby, enhancing the picture quality and also, the format conversion unit can perform the only first interpolation without the additional interlacing process thereby, reducing the size of the memory in the format conversion unit.
