  • Patent number: 7426550
Abstract: An extensible wireless framework for connecting to a wireless network is provided. The extensible wireless framework includes a network roaming service with a registration component and a network service component. The registration component registers extensible service modules and extensible drivers for providing non-standard (i.e., extensible) capabilities to the wireless network. The extensible service module provides a service not provided by a native component of the extensible wireless framework, and the extensible driver may implement a media access control sub-layer of a wireless network protocol and provide a media access control interface. The network service component identifies available wireless networks, selects to join the wireless network when available, requests the extensible driver for the wireless network via its media access control interface to connect to the selected network, and notifies the extensible service module to provide services to the extensible driver.

  • Publication number: 20080155429
Abstract: Technologies for transient personal preference customization of environments, devices and systems based on user preference data. Such technologies enable users to maintain personal preference data on mobile or other devices, such as cell phones, personal data assistants (“PDA”), or the like, such that the data can be transferred to devices and systems capable of conforming parameters under their control to the preferences expressed in the data. For example, a frequent traveler may define preferences regarding room temperature, ambient lighting, music style, and the like and maintain these preferences in a mobile device such as a cell phone. Upon arrival at a hotel room, for example, the systems of the hotel may access the preference data and adjust the parameters of the room, and the devices and systems in the room, to conform to the user's preferences while the user is in the room or checked into the hotel.

  • Publication number: 20080154697
Abstract: Technologies for allowing people or other entities to detect others with common interests, particularly when proximate to one another. A user can configure a mobile device with information about his interests, such as things they wish to buy or sell, the kinds of people they would like to meet, or any other interests. Such a mobile device may federate with other similarly-enabled devices such that interest information is exchanged and interest matches are sought. Such exchanges and/or matching may be limited by physical or geographic proximity, such as when two people are physically close to one another. Upon discovery of a match, the user is typically notified of the match and the user's contact information may be forwarded to the other matching user's device.

  • Publication number: 20080122871
Abstract: Technologies for creating and viewing virtual graffiti using federated devices. The technologies allow users to associate virtual graffiti with geographic locations and restrict access to the graffiti to particular users, groups, federations, or the like. Users with appropriate access rights may be able to discover and view graffiti associated with a particular geographic location via a federated device when they are present at the location. Users may also access such graffiti from lists via federated devices.

  • Publication number: 20080125102
Abstract: The present invention includes methods and technologies for defining and administering device manners policy (“DMP”), propagating DMP, reception and recognition of, and compliance with DMP. Such policy may be used to communicate to various mobile and other devices the “manners” with which compliance is expected or required. Similar to some of the social manners honored among people, such as with “no smoking” or “employees only” zones, “no swimming” or “no flash photography” areas, and scenarios for “please wash your hands” or “no talking out loud”, devices may recognize and comply with analogous “device manners” policy.

  • Publication number: 20080107037
Abstract: A method and system is provided for determining reliability of data from a network or federated device. In one example, data from different devices in the network are compared and a relationship between the devices is determined. The reliability may be based on the relationship of the devices and/or similarity of data from the devices. In another example, reliability of devices and/or data from the devices may be based on a historical reliability of the devices.

  • Publication number: 20080087729
Abstract: Technology for use with computing devices, particularly mobile devices and wireless networks supporting federation, enabling people, devices, systems, or the like to join together in electronic federations for purposes of voting or the like. The votes in such voting situations may be weighted based on various criteria associated with the voter, the subject of the vote, and/or other criteria relevant to the voting scenario. The technology also enables users to monitor a voting scenario in real-time and tailor their own voting or decisions or the like to the scenario, even as it unfolds.

  • Patent number: 7292956
Abstract: A method and system is provided for management of medical data from a network of devices. The network of devices may include federated sensors that collect and forward medical data pertaining to an individual or biological specimen. The federated sensors or a central or remote device may further process the medical data and assign a priority value to the medical data. Processing can also include the analysis of the data for sensor error, local fusion of multiple sensors into higher-level interpretations, and the summarization or abstraction of the data into information that people are more comfortable with sharing than they might be with transmittal of the base data. The medical data may be transported to a healthcare provider or other endpoints based on the priority value and the authorization of recipient.

  • Patent number: 7284062
Abstract: A computer system attempts to authenticate with a server to gain authorization to access a first network. It is determined by the server that the computer system is not authorized to access the first network. The computer system is given authorization to access a second network for at least the purpose of downloading files (e.g., signup and configuration files) needed to access the first network. A user-interface for receiving user-entered signup information is automatically presented at the computer system. A first schema-based document including user-entered information is transferred to the server. If the server determines that the user-entered information is appropriate, a second-schema document, which includes an indication of authorization to access the first network (e.g., a user-identifier and password), is received. A third schema-based document is executed at the computer system to compatibly configure the computer system for accessing the first network.

  • Publication number: 20070015463
Abstract: The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or a method that facilitates connecting a wireless device to a secure network. A device can establish a near field communication link with a verified device on a network, wherein the near field communication link can be a secure and/or encrypted link to provision the device without compromising security constraints within the network. An installation component can invoke the transfer of provisioning data to the network via the near field communication link to secure a wireless connection for the device to the network.
