Abstract: A method of synthesizing indole compounds. The method may include allyllating an indole compound, oxidizing the resulting ?-indolepropene, and reductively aminating the resulting indoleacetaldehyde, providing a tryptamine. The indole compound may be substituted with a functional group on the indole ring or may be unsubstituted indole. The method may include substitution, oxidation or other derivatization of the indole ring of the indole compound, of tryptophan, of the tryptamine, or of intermediates. The method may include oxidizing tryptophan or a ring-substituted tryptophan analogue and reductively aminating the resulting indoleacetaldehyde, providing a tryptamine. The method may be applied in a telescoped approach without isolation of intermediates. The method may be applied to production of indoles, ?-indolepropenes, indole propyl diols, indoleacetaldehydes and tryptamines. Compounds from each of these classes of compounds are also provided herein.

Abstract: A diarylethene compound reversibly convertible under photochromic and electrochromic conditions between a ring-open isomer of Formula (1A) and a ring-closed isomer of Formula (IB) wherein R5 is a substituted phenyl ring and Re is a substituted thiophene ring is provided. The photochromic-electrochromic diarylethene compound of Formula (1A)/(1B) have improved photochromic, electrochromic or photochromic and electrochromic properties, and is useful to provide variation of the light transmission properties of optical filters. The compound also possesses improved solubility making it suitable for incorporation in commercial products.

Abstract: A flat cable unit with light emitting elements includes lower and upper insulating layers, a plurality of metal conductors and light emitting elements. The plurality of metal conductors are disposed in parallel with each other and between the upper and lower insulating layers, and include two power conductors and multiple device conductors. A conductive contact is formed on one end of the power conductor. The device conductors are exposed to openings of the upper insulting layer so as to form a plurality of connecting portions. Each of the power conductors is provided with a linking portion, one end of the linking portion linked to the power conductor, and the other end of the linking portion linked to any one of the device conductors. A plurality of light emitting elements are disposed on the openings and electrically connect the connecting portions.
