  • Publication number: 20230403744
Abstract: A satellite constellation provides communication between user terminals (UTs) and ground stations that connect to other networks, such as the Internet. Satellites transmit beacon transmissions to particular areas on Earth as particular times. The beacon transmissions include information used by a UT to use a random access channel (RACH) uplink to request communication. Responsive to the request, encryption is established between the satellite and the UT. The satellite may then allocate uplink resources, send data to the UT on a downlink, and so forth. The UT receives additional data about future handovers to other satellites. Based on previously received data the UT may quickly re-establish communication with a satellite after an interruption, such as due to a power outage at the UT. If the previously received data has expired, the UT may again use a beacon transmission.

  • Patent number: 9792106
Abstract: A network device includes a control processor and a network processor unit (NPU) to forward network packets between network ports of the device. The processor downloads a new operating system (OS). The processor performs a fast upgrade to the new OS using a fast upgrade/reload technique to isolate the processor from interruptions and, without rebooting the processor, start the new OS in place of an existing OS. The fast upgrade/reload also includes delaying a reset of the NPU so that the NPU continues to route the network packets based on existing forwarding information. The fast upgrade/reload includes resetting the NPU only when the new OS first accesses the NPU, and then programming the reset NPU.

  • Patent number: 9438475
Abstract: Techniques described herein provide enhanced address allocation services in a network. A switch device in communication with a host device is configured as an address relay device and receives an address request message from the host device. The switch device modifies the address request message to include a response address that uniquely identifies the switch device. The switch device adds in a field of the address request message subnetwork information that identifies a subnetwork to which the host device belongs. The switch device sends the modified address request message to an address server.
