  • Publication number: 20240168853
Abstract: A data management system may deploy a virtual machine agent on a source data storage environment including a first set of computing resources managed by a user of a data management platform. In some examples, the virtual machine agent facilitates a connection between the source data storage environment and a target data storage environment including a second set of computing resources managed by the data management platform. The target data storage environment may be configured to automatically recover and restore data at the target data storage environment based on determining a failover event at the source data storage environment. The data management system may receive, from the user, a backup configuration configuring a schedule for backing up the data from the source data storage environment to the target data storage environment. The data management system may then perform a backup of the data in accordance with the backup configuration.

  • Publication number: 20240111642
Abstract: Some users of a data management system (DMS) may use multiple computing environments to replicate and store virtual machines (VM)s, such as for backup and recovery purposes. For example, different replication environments may include one or more private data centers, one or more cloud environments or any combination thereof. A user may schedule a failover procedure for an application. A DMS may perform a failover procedure that reduces downtime and eliminates data loss. The DMS may capture and replicate a snapshot of a VM running on a source computing environment to a target computing environment, power down the VM on the source computing environment, capture and replicate a second snapshot of the VM to the target computing environment, and power on the VM at the target computing environment. As the additional snapshot includes a relatively small amount of data replication at the target computing environment may proceed quickly, reducing downtime.

  • Patent number: 11068356
Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing the data recovery time when failing back to a primary system from a secondary data backup system using virtual machine conversions and incremental exportation for backed-up virtual machine snapshots are described. Upon detection that the primary system is available to receive replicated snapshots for a virtual machine, the secondary data backup system may identify a first virtual machine snapshot out of a chain of snapshots for the virtual machine (e.g., the earliest in time snapshot within the chain or a middle snapshot in the middle of the chain) and transfer a full image snapshot for the first virtual machine snapshot to the primary system. Thereafter, data changes between the next virtual machine snapshot to be transferred to the primary system and the most-recently hydrated virtual machine on the primary system may be identified and then transferred to the primary system.
