  • Publication number: 20060135270
Abstract: A method of forming a flexible component includes performing a stress analysis on potential configurations of the component. A desired as-molded shape can be selected from the configurations that were analyzed based upon the stresses resulting from manipulation.

    Publication date: June 22, 2006
    Inventor: Shen-Ling Wang
  • Publication number: 20060119048
Abstract: A sealing component constructed of silicone compound for use in high-temperature, high-speed and high-angle applications is disclosed. The disclosed silicone material may also be reinforced with fibers for added stiffness and stability.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20060105846
Abstract: A boot for a joint is provided having an aperture and at least one protrusion and at least one indentation disposed about an inside diameter of the aperture.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20050239554
Abstract: A vent valve for use in a constant velocity joint having a vent aperture in communication with a joint cavity comprises a body portion having a first end and a second end and a plurality of escape pathways extending therebetween. An umbrella shaped flexible retention cap is disposed adjacent the first end of the body portion and the plurality of escape pathways, wherein the retention cap is operative in a normally closed position to cover the plurality of escape pathways and seal the joint from external contaminants, and in response to internal pressure created in the joint cavity functions to bellow outward and expose the plurality of escape pathways to permit air to escape from the cavity.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 21, 2004
    Publication date: October 27, 2005
    Inventor: Shen-Ling Wang
  • Publication number: 20050233812
Abstract: A slip spline boot for use in a constant velocity joint of a vehicle drive line includes a plurality of bellows. The plurality of bellows are arranged between a first and second end of the slip spline boot. The plurality of bellows have a specific peak to peak distance and a specific bellow angle for each of the bellows. The symmetrical boot will have the exact same peak to peak distance and bellow angle for each of the plurality of bellows on the slip spline boot. The slip spline boot is made of a high temperature high stiffness thermoplastic elastomer.

    Inventors: Shen-Ling Wang, Lawrence Mischley
  • Publication number: 20050129890
Abstract: A sealing component constructed of hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (“HNBR”) compound for use in high temperature, high speed and high angle applications is disclosed. The disclosed HNBR material may also be reinforced with fibers for added stiffness and stability.

  • Publication number: 20050101390
Abstract: A vent valve for use in a constant velocity joint having a vent aperture in communication with a joint chamber comprises a body having a first end and a second end and at least one flat extending therebetween; and an umbrella shaped flexible retention cap disposed adjacent the first end of the body and the at least one flat. The retention cap is operative in a normally closed position to cover the at least one flat and seal the joint from external contaminants, and in response to internal pressure created in the joint cavity, functions to bellow outward and expose the at least one flat to permit air to escape from the chamber. The at least one flat includes a straight-line vent to clean the grease off and away from the vent valve. The vent valve can be made from single or multiple materials, having porous and non-porous properties.

  • Publication number: 20050051973
Abstract: A molded boot having an inner layer and an outer layer made from different elastomeric material. Each layer is compatible with the fluid environment to which it is exposed. The dual layer boot provides longer service life with less degradation caused by chemical and environmental exposure.
