Abstract: There is provided a personal fall detection system comprising a sensor module that is suitable for attachment to a user, the sensor module comprising an accelerometer for measuring accelerations acting on the sensor module; and a processor for analyzing the measured accelerations to determine if the sensor module has suffered an impact, and for estimating a vertical displacement of the sensor module during a time period immediately before the impact; wherein the processor estimates the vertical displacement of the sensor module by twice integrating the measurements from the accelerometer.

Abstract: A system for capturing and retrieving a collection of video image data captures video image data from a live scene with still cameras and PTZ cameras, and automatically detects an object of interest entering or moving in the live scene. The system automatically controls the PTZ camera to enable close-up real time video capture of the object of interest. The system automatically tracks the object of interest in the captured video image data and analyses features of the object of interest.

According to the present invention, the optical disc player sets the optimum optical disc navigator that can be realized as the optical disc navigator for playing the optical disc by testing and adjusting basing on the optical disc navigator resources that are retrieved from the optical disc playing system (including the optical disc player, optical disc and network or other storage media) and the functions that can be realized by the default optical disc navigator within the optical disc playing system, so as to achieve the purpose of fully utilizing the resources and smooth playing.

Abstract: The present invention is a method of representing video data in a non-linear paradigm. Video data are categorized into semantic content comprising multi-layer structure each denotes semantic reference, such as different cinematic entities. The semantic content is organized in a hierarchical structure where the top layer denotes global information while the lowest layer represents primitive information. The cinematic entities in the top layer are hyper-linked to the entities in the second layer. The entities in the second layer are hyper-linked to the third layer and so forth. Each cinematic entity in the lowest layer is designated to a part of the video content and hyper-linked to the corresponding video data. The semantic content comprises hyper-linked video data in an N-to-N relationship. N-to-N relationship means the data are hyper-video and the video data supports multiple access and multiple presentation. An apparatus for presenting categorized semantic content is also disclosed.

The power consumption of the whole system can be decreased by using the monitoring result of physiological signals as a trigger for the movement detection sub-system.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for playing an optical disc, and an optical disc recording apparatus. According to the method provided by the present invention, the description information of the program content and the description information of the enhancement content are first acquired, and then compared with each other; then it is judged whether the program corresponds to the enhancement content according to the result of the comparison; and finally, the program content is played independently of the enhancement content if the program content does not correspond to the enhancement content. With the present invention, the playback problem causing from the non-match of the program content and the enhancement content in an optical disc with the enhancement format resulting from the revision of the optical disc by a conventional optical disc recording apparatus that does not support the enhancement format can be avoided.

Abstract: The present application provides a method and apparatus for playing a mobile video program. The mobile video playing method and apparatus provided by the invention buffer the program content received in real time when there is a considerable movement state change. After the movement state becomes stable, playing will be resumed. While playing is resumed, the buffered contents can be firstly played (including the playing manners such as skipping, fast forward, etc), and then a program content received in real time will be played after all the buffered contents have been processed. According to the mobile video playing method provided by the invention, both the user's requirement for the continuity of a program content and the user's viewing effect will not be influenced by a fierce change of movement state of the mobile video apparatus.

The operations performed at the super client terminal includes presenting media objects selected by the teacher, that are prestored on a storage medium such as an optical disc. Then, relevant commands and parameters based on the teacher's actions are sent to client terminals to cause similar operations to be performed on the client terminals. In this way, the students' experience relating to presentation of the media objects at the clients terminals is controlled based on the operations performed at the super client.
