The portable imaging system includes an electronic device with a camera, a base attachment, and at least two interchangeable imaging heads. The base attachment is configured to connect to the digital device on one side and at least two removable, interchangeable imaging heads on the other side. The connected imaging head is in optical communication with the camera. Switching between different imaging modalities is as simple as switching between the interchangeable imaging heads. Each removable imaging head contains its own light source (or is optically connected to a laser diode disposed in the base attachment), lens, and/or optical filters that can be attached quickly to the same base attachment.

A master device may receive audio data from a content server or other remote data source and store the audio data in a local cache. The master device may provide the audio data to multiple slave devices using a single multicast transmission. In some cases, the master device may also provide the audio data to individual slave devices unable to receive the multicast transmission using a network connection. Each slave device may store the audio data in a local cache. To generate the audio output, each audio device may retrieve the audio data from the associated local cache, which may enable the audio data to be distributed without modifying the commands used by audio applications to generate the audio output.

A larger group of devices may be divided into subsets of devices, each subset including a master device that provides data to multiple slave devices via a multicast transmission. A master device may be determined based on the respective signal quality between the audio devices and an access point, and the number of other audio devices to which each respective audio device may provide data. Other devices having respective signal quality for communication with the master device that exceeds a threshold may be designated as slave devices. Once a first subset is formed, the remaining devices may be grouped into additional subsets. Remaining devices that are not a part of any subset may receive data via communication with an access point.

    Abstract: A group of computing devices use a wireless channel for communication, resulting in congestion. Within that group, some devices may need to exchange time sensitive application data, such as data indicative of control inputs received from a user. A destination device may transmit a clear to send (CTS) frame over the channel that indicates a CTS interval indicative of a time to suspend transmission. Other computing devices respond to the CTS frame by suspending transmission for the specified CTS interval. However, a source device in the group of many computing devices receives the CTS frame and initiates transmission of application data instead of suspending transmission. As a result, the source device transmits while other computing devices are not transmitting. In some implementations a beacon frame may be transmitted before a CTS frame. The destination device may confirm receipt of the application data by transmitting an acknowledgement to the source device.

For example, the mobile device may store a first signal strength associated with the first frequency band when the mobile device first connects to the first frequency band and may monitor subsequent signal strengths to determine if they exceed the first signal strength. When a subsequent signal strength exceeds the first signal strength, the mobile device may use this as an indication that the mobile device is closer to the access point and within range of the second frequency band. The mobile device may then detect and connect to the second frequency band.

Once a favorable wireless AP is identified, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the wireless AP. If the wireless AP is not available, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the next wireless AP in the ranked list, etc.
