  • Publication number: 20120324772
Abstract: An LED light fixture. A fixture housing includes a socket-receiving cutout section. A socket is held within the socket-receiving cutout section. An LED circuit board is connected to an LED circuit board holder. The LED circuit board holder includes an insertion piece. The insertion piece is inserted into the socket-receiving cutout section and fits over the socket so that the connection pins from the LED circuit board are inserted into the socket. The insertion piece is press-fit into the socket-receiving cutout section and is held in place by friction force between the insertion piece and the socket-receiving cutout section. A thermally conductive pathway is established between the LEDs on the LED circuit board, the circuit board holder and the fixture housing. Heat generated by the LEDs travel through the circuit board and through the fixture housing.

  • Patent number: 7382528
Abstract: A gem microscope includes a base structure that supports the microscope stage, focus column, and optical head. The base structure includes a lower component that receives a power cord; the lower component and the power cord remain stationary when the gem microscope is in use. The base structure also includes an upper component rotatably coupled to the lower component. The upper component can rotate around the lower component to enable convenient sharing of the gem microscope by a number of users. The base structure includes an electrical coupler assembly that maintains an electrical connection (for the gem microscope power supplies) throughout rotation of the gem microscope.

Date of Patent: June 3, 2008
Assignee: Gemological Institute of America, Inc.
Inventors: Howard Pomerantz, Sherman Gingerella, Derwin Fritts
  • Patent number: 7142358
Abstract: A gem microscope according to the invention includes a focus column, a stage, and a quick disconnect mechanism that facilitates removable coupling of the focus column to the stage. The focus column and the stage have compatible features that establish the proper mounting plane and lateral alignment of the focus column relative to the stage. In the example embodiment, the quick disconnect mechanism includes a threaded element on the focus column and a compatibly threaded thumbwheel that rotates within the stage to connect/disconnect the focus column to/from the stage.
