    Abstract: A wobble plate compressor including a housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber is disclosed. A plurality of pistons are coupled to a wobble plate and slidably fitted in the cylinders. A drive shaft is rotatably supported in the housing. An inclined plate connected to the wobble plate is rotated by the drive shaft through a rotor. The rotational motion of the inclined plate is converted into nutational motion of the wobble plate. A rotation preventing mechanism in used to prevent rotational motion of the wobble plate. The rotation preventing mechanism has a guide plate extending within the crank chamber, a cylindrical block including a vertical groove formed therein and retaining system for retaining the cylindrical block on the wobble plate such that the vertical groove is slidably fitted on the guide plate.

    Abstract: This invention discloses a lubricating mechanism of a hermetically sealed scroll type compressor in which an inner chamber of a housing is kept at suction pressure. The compressor includes a drive shaft supported by bearings in inner blocks. The drive shaft is operatively linked to an orbiting scroll which orbits within a stationary scroll. A rotation prevention device prevents rotation of the orbiting scroll. The drive shaft includes an axial bore extending from an open end and terminating adjacent a forward bearing. A pin extends from the end of the drive shaft to the orbital scroll. A passage links the axial bore to an opening at the end of the pin facing the orbital scroll. Radial bores are provided near the terminal end of the axial bore and at the rearward end of the axial bore near a rearward bearing. The radial bores link the axial bore to a suction chamber of the compressor to allow lubricating oil to lubricate the bearings. The narrow passages allows lubrication of the rotation prevention mechanism.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type refrigerant compressor including a compressor housing having a cylinder block is disclosed. A plurality of peripherally located cylinders are formed through the cylinder block. A piston is slidably fitted in each of the cylinders and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism which includes a slant plate. The slant plate includes a boss for mounting a wobble plate and balance weight ring thereon. The balance weight ring prevents the axial movement of the wobble plate during operation of the compressor. The balance weight ring includes a centrally located thin plate region defining a recessed portion. The balance weight ring includes a plurality of holes formed at the thin plate region and an annular side wall of the recessed portion tapered to provide sufficient lubrication to the friction surface between the wobble plate and the thin plate region of the balance weight ring during compressor operation.

    Abstract: A slant-plate type compressor including a compressor housing having a cylinder block as disclosed. A plurality of peripherally located cylinders are formed around the cylinder block, and a central bore is formed through the cylinder block. A piston is slidably fitted in each of the cylinders and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft rotatably supported in the compressor housing, and having one axial end terminating in the central bore. A rearward portion of the central bore is threaded, and an adjusting screw is screwed into the rear portion to adjust the axial position of the drive shaft within the central bore. A spacer is disposed between the inner axial end surface of the drive shaft and the adjusting screw. The spacer includes a plurality of radial projections extending from a peripheral surface, and fitting into corresponding depressions formed in the interior surface of the central bore.

    Abstract: A hermetic type scroll compressor includes a hermetically sealed compressor housing formed by first and second cup shaped casings. The first casing houses a compression mechanism, while the second casing houses a drive mechanism. The compression mechanism includes a fixed scroll affixed to the first cup shaped casing, an orbiting scroll interfitted at an angular and radial offset with the fixed scroll, and a rotation preventing device disposed between the orbiting scroll and the center block. The movement of both the compression and driving mechanisms may be inspected or tested and those mechanisms may be readily disassembled so that component parts thereof may be adjusted or replaced before hermetically securing the first casing to the second casing. Furthermore, each casing is provided with a center block forming, in part, an alignment mechanism for aligning the drive mechanism drive shaft with the orbiting scroll of the compression mechanism.

    Abstract: A compressor includes a housing having a first casing which encloses a compression mechanism and a second casing releasably attached to one end of the first casing. The second casing supporting a pair of bearings which in turn rotatably support a drive shaft. The first one of the bearings is positioned adjacent the first casing and the second bearing is spaced therefrom toward the driven end of the drive shaft. A sealing mechanism is disposed about the drive shaft and between the bearings for sealing the compressor housing and preventing refrigerant or lubricating oil from leaking therefrom.The second bearing includes a gripping mechanism on the outermost radial surface thereof. The gripping mechanism is preferably an annular groove formed in the outermost radial surface of the bearing. Therefore, it is not necessary to remove the casing which supports the bearing from the bearing before pulling the bearing off of the shaft.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor is disclosed which includes a compressor housing having a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber adjacent the cylinders therein. A reciprocative piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders. A drive mechanism is coupled to the pistons. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft which is rotatably supported in an opening of a front end plate and extends into the compressor housing. The drive shaft is supported by a radial bearing. The drive shaft is attached on to an end surface of a cam rotor at an inclindation angle .theta..sub.1 and rotates therewith. The angle .theta..sub.1 is determined so that under severe operating conditions the interior surface of the radial bearing and the exterior surface of the drive shaft are uniformly contacted with each other to prevent damages due to partial contact. In alternative embodiments, the radial bearing is formed with a conical inner surface to insure uniform contact between it and the exterior surface of the drive shaft.

    Abstract: A refrigerant wobble plate type compressor is disclosed which includes pistons for being reciprocated within respective cylinders by a wobble plate member. The wobble plate member is adjacently disposed and relatively rotatably borne on an inclining surface of an inclined rotor member. The inclined rotor member is secured on an inner end of a drive shaft. First and second end plates are mounted on one end and an opposite end of a compressor housing respectively. The first end plate comprises inlet and outlet ports, and defines discharge and suction chambers. The drive shaft is rotatably borne in the second end plate and extends from the exterior to the interior of the compressor housing. A first anti-friction thrust bearing assembly is mounted between an inner end surface of the second end plate and an opposite end of the inclining surface of the inclined rotor member.

    Abstract: A piston-type refrigeration compressor having a more secure valve plate seal is disclosed. A cylinder housing is provided with a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinders at one end. The end surface of the cylinder block near the cylinder is coupled to a cylinder head through gaskets and a valve plate. A circular depression is formed on the end surface of the cylinder block to accommodate the gasket substantially within the depression and thereby seal the cylinder block and valve plate. In this way, the outward expansion of the gasket is prevented which prevents the gasket from deteriorating.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a scroll type fluid displacement compressor, and more particularly, to an axial sealing mechanism for sealing the scrolls in an axial direction. A scroll type fluid displacement compressor includes a housing, a pair of scrolls each comprising an end plate and scroll element projecting from one surface of the end plate. Both scroll elements are interfitted at an angular and radial offset to make a plurality of line contacts. A groove is formed on the end surface of each scroll element and a seal element is placed within each groove. The axial thickness of one seal element is equal to or greater than the depth of the groove. The axial thickness of the other seal element is less than the distance between the bottom surface of the other groove and the end plate of the opposing scroll.

    Abstract: A scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus with a lubricating mechanism to lubricate between an end plate and an opposed spiral wrap is disclosed. The apparatus has a pair of scrolls, each of which comprises a circular end plate and a spiral wrap extending from one side of the end plate. A groove, in which a seal element is loosely fitted, is formed on the axial end surface of each spiral wrap. One spiral wrap has a second groove at its axial end surface and extends close to the outer terminal end of spiral wrap. The sectional shape of the second groove is different from the sectional shape of the first groove to prevent the movement of the seal element in the first groove. Gas containing lubricating oil is supplied to the outer terminal portion of spiral wrap through the first groove and second grooves.

    Abstract: A lubricating mechanism for a scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. A driving mechanism for an orbiting scroll comprises a drive shaft and a drive pin projecting at an eccentric location from an inner end surface of the drive shaft. An annular boss projecting from a circular end plate of the orbiting scroll receives the drive pin. Therefore, the orbiting scroll is rotatably supported on the drive pin. The lubricating mechanism includes an oil passageway formed in the circular end plate of the orbiting scroll to communicate between the interior of the boss and one of the fluid packets located at the outer peripheral portion of the spiral elements. Lubricating oil thus flows into the interior of the boss and lubricates the bearing and other contact surface disposed in the center portion of the apparatus.

    Abstract: A rotation-preventing/thrust-bearing device for use in an orbiting-member fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The rotation-preventing/thrust-bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements. The fixed portion includes a fixed race and ring placed in a groove in an inner surface of the housing. The fixed race and ring are attached to the housing by pins, and the inner peripheral edge of the groove is caulked to the fixed ring. The orbital portion includes an orbital race and ring placed in a groove in an end plate of the orbiting member. The orbital race and ring are attached to the end plate of the orbiting member by pins, and the outer peripheral edge of the groove in the end plate is caulked to the orbital ring. A plurality of pockets are formed axially in the rings toward the respective races. The pockets of the rings face one another in generally aligned pairs.

An end plate of a housing for the compressor supports and bears the drive shaft and is formed with an oil port extending from a shaft seal cavity mounting a shaft seal of the drive shaft to a gap between the end plate and the rotor, with the drive shaft being formed with another oil port extending the shaft seal cavity and a gap between the rotor and the wobble plate whereby the lubricant oil flows through the gap between the rotor and the wobble plate, the oil port in the drive shaft, the shaft seal cavity, the oil port in the end plate, and the gap between the rotor and the end plate in the order. The rotor is formed with an annular recess on a surface thereof facing the end plate and in eccentricity from the rotating axis of the rotor.
