  • Publication number: 20050136199
Abstract: An extrusion-molded portion in the upper side portion of a weather strip is provided with a main seal member, a sub-seal member and a coupling portion. The main seal member has a first fitting base portion in the form of a substantially flat plate fitted to the first retainer of a door frame, and a hollow seal portion formed integrally with the first fitting base portion. The sub-seal member has a second fitting base portion in the form of a substantially flat plate fitted to a second retainer, and a seal lip. The seal lip, the coupling portion and the hollow seal portion are consecutively formed by monolithic molding with EPDM sponge rubber. The greater part of the second fitting base portion and the central part of the first fitting base portion are formed of EPDM solid rubber. Therefore, the difference in expansion rate hardly occurs and a warp is restrained from being generated.

  • Publication number: 20050084196
Abstract: Cascaded optical deflectors are formed from light deflecting elements of an electro-optical material that are individually controlled according to applied voltage differences across the elements. The shape of the elements are determined by the shape of the electrodes on either side of the electro-optical material, while the refractive index is controlled by the sign and magnitude of a voltage difference applied across the elements. In particular, the invention includes light deflection elements that are tilted with respect to one another and that are individually controlled to provide for the deflection of light in an improved manner.

  • Publication number: 20050002634
Abstract: The intensity of signals in optical networks can be controlled using a variable optical attenuator (VOA). The present invention is a VOA that is particularly well suited for optical networks, for example to provide channel-by-channel normalization of gain control of wavelength division multiplexed signals. The inventive VOA includes a waveguide having an electro-optical material and electrodes that produce an electric field within the electro-optical material when a voltage difference is applied to the electrodes. The electro-optical material can either be a substrate or can be a layer deposited on a substrate. In an alternative embodiment, a polarization independent VOA is formed from a waveguide that includes two, end-to-end waveguides. In one embodiment, a 90 degree polarization rotator is provided between the two waveguides. In another embodiment, each of the two waveguides has a different electro-optical material selected to selectively pass one of two 90 degree polarizations.

  • Patent number: 6819818
Abstract: An optical switch having a common waveguide and optical properties to improve switch performance is presented. The common waveguide is located between a first plural light deflection elements and a second plural light deflection elements, each including prisms made by electro-optic material. The common waveguide material is selected to improve switch performance by increasing the deflection of the light deflecting elements and/or reducing the effects induced by birefringence from the electro-optical material. The present invention can be used in optical switch designs having common waveguides or other optical switches.

  • Publication number: 20040126079
Abstract: A system and method is provided for attenuating a light signal. One embodiment includes a method for causing optical attenuation in a waveguide, where the waveguide has an input port for receiving a light signal and an output port for output of an attenuated light signal. First, an electric field is generated in at least a portion of the waveguide, such that a first refractive index in that portion of the waveguide is changed to a second refractive index. Next, the light signal in the waveguide is directed from the input port to the output port through the electric field. And lastly, the light signal is attenuated as a function of the electric field. The light signal may be attenuated, for example, by changing the deflection angle, changing the beam collimation width or from emitting part of the light signal from the waveguide before the light signal reaches the output port.

  • Patent number: 6397681
Abstract: This portable ultrasonic detector has a moved distance instrument comprised of an encoder for detecting a moved amount and a counter for counting the moved amount signal outputted from the encoder, as a means for obtaining position information of an ultrasonic probe. When moving the ultrasonic probe on the surface of the object on the occasion of the inspection, the moved distance instrument measures the moved amount of the ultrasonic probe. The measured moved amount of the ultrasonic probe is sent to an arithmetic processing section of the device body. Also, the ultrasonic detector detects A-scope data when scanning the inspected object with the ultrasonic probe, and executes the predetermined processing by using the data. The ultrasonic detector combines the A-scope data and the moved distance data of the ultrasonic probe to make an inner scope image (B-scope image, etc). When repeatedly scanning the same spot of the object with the ultrasonic probe in order to make the B-scope image, etc.

  • Patent number: 6112593
Abstract: A non-destructive inspection device has an inspection unit body and a support casing which is used as a set-up type device by combining the inspection unit body and the support casing in ordinary inspection, and is used as a portable type device by separating them for special inspection situations involving narrow places or high places. The support casing can be freely combined to or separated from the inspection unit body. When combining the two components, the non-destructive inspection device can carry out the inspection based on a stable set-up mode in the same way as conventional devices. When separated, the inspection unit body is used as a portable device.

  • Patent number: 4939021
Abstract: A multilayer ceramic copper circuit board was produced by forming a multilayer structure comprising layers of copper-based paste patterns and layers of glass/ceramic composite. The glass-ceramic consisted of a mixture of 3% to 75% by weight of mullite, 25% to 97% by weight of borosilicate glass having a softening temperature of at least 720.degree. C., and 0% to 72% by weight of quartz glass, based on the total weight of the glass/ceramic composite, and blended with a binder composition containing a thermally depolymerizable resin. The multilayer structure was prefired in an inert atmosphere containing water vapor and having a partial pressure of 0.005 to 0.3 atomsphere, at a temperature at which the thermally depolymerizable resin was eliminated, the multilayer structure was then fired in an inert atmosphere containing no water vapor at a temperature below the melting temperature of copper, to sinter the glass/ceramic composite.
