Storage system having nonvolatile semiconductor storage device with nonvolatile semiconductor memory
Patent number: 9116622Abstract: A storage system coupled to a host has a nonvolatile semiconductor storage device that includes a nonvolatile semiconductor memory configured by a plurality of pages, and a storage controller coupled to the semiconductor storage device. In the case where data stored in the plurality of pages become unnecessary, with this plurality of pages being the basis of a region of a logical volume based on the nonvolatile semiconductor storage device, the storage controller transmits, to the nonvolatile semiconductor storage device, an unnecessary reduction request for reducing the number of pages that are the basis of the region having the unnecessary data stored therein. On the basis of the unnecessary reduction request, the nonvolatile semiconductor storage device invalidates the plurality of pages that are the basis of the region having the unnecessary data stored therein.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2012Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Susumu Suzuki, Shigeo Homma, Yuko Matsui -
Publication number: 20150227322Abstract: A migration-destination primary storage apparatus (MD-PDKC) comprises a second PVOL and a second journal storage area storing a journal corresponding to write data for the second PVOL, and executes a data copy to the second PVOL from a first PVOL, which is in a migration-source primary storage apparatus (MS-PDKC) and forms a copy pair with an SVOL in a secondary storage apparatus (SDKC). After the data copy has been completed, the MD-PDKC acquires the latest write sequence information from the MS-PDKC, and upon receiving a write request for the second PVOL, writes the write-request write data to the second PVOL, creates a journal by using journal data corresponding to the write data and also by using update information showing write sequence information based on the acquired latest write sequence information, and writes the journal to the second journal storage area.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2012Publication date: August 13, 2015Inventors: Takashi Noda, Shigeo Homma, Tomohiro Kawaguchi, Hideo Saito, Kazuhide Sano, Shuji Kondo

Publication number: 20150074364Abstract: A source remote copy configuration in a source storage system is migrated to a destination storage system as a destination remote copy configuration. The destination primary storage apparatus of the destination storage system defines a virtual volume mapped to the primary volume provided by the source primary storage apparatus which is a storage area of the virtual volume; takes over a first identifier of the primary volume to the virtual volume; transfers, when the virtual volume receives an access request, the access request to the source primary storage apparatus to write data in the primary volume; and takes over the first identifier from the virtual volume to another primary volume provided by the destination primary storage apparatus, after completion of copy of data from primary volume of the source primary storage apparatus into primary volume of the destination primary storage apparatus and secondary volume of the destination secondary storage apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2014Publication date: March 12, 2015Inventors: Taiki KONO, Hidenori SUZUKI, Kunihiko NASHIMOTO, Shigeo HOMMA, Toru SUZUKI, Tomohiro KAWAGUCHI, Hideo SAITO, Azusa JIN, Hiroshi NASU, Keishi TAMURA, Shoji SUGINO

Publication number: 20150052297Abstract: Package controller of a flash package, upon receiving an update data write request with respect to a first logical storage area corresponding to a first LU that is treated as a backup target, manages a first physical storage area as a backup storage area in a state where pre-update data is maintained, allocates a second physical storage area to the first logical storage area, and writes the update data to the second physical storage area. The package controller, upon receiving an update data write request with respect to a second logical storage area corresponding to a second LU that is treated as a non-backup target, manages a third physical storage area allocated to the second logical storage area as an invalid storage area, and writes the update data to a fourth physical storage area newly allocated to the second logical storage area.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2014Publication date: February 19, 2015Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Yoshiyuki Noborikawa, Shigeo Homma

Patent number: 8930745Abstract: Since the whole storage device is blocked according to the conventional data saving method when failure occurs to the storage device in a storage subsystem, so that when failure occurs to two storage devices at the same time within a same RAID group, double failure is caused and data loss occurs. In order to solve the problem, the present invention divides a storage device into storage areas of predetermined units, constructs RAID groups from two or more storage areas, and when failure occurs to the storage area, selects a data migration destination storage area from either the RAID group in which failure has occurred or the RAID group other than the RAID group in which failure has occurred, migrates the data stored in the storage area where failure has occurred to the selected data migration destination storage area, and blocks only the storage area where failure has occurred.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2012Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Daisuke Endo, Koji Iwamitsu, Shigeo Homma

Publication number: 20150006801Abstract: A storage system monitors the first access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a first period, and the second access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a second period shorter than the first period. Along with performing data relocation among the tiers (levels) in the first period cycle based on the first access frequency of occurrence, the storage system performs a decision whether or not to perform a second relocation based on the first access frequency of occurrence and the second access frequency of occurrence, synchronously with access from a host device. Here the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the first relocation is different from the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the second relocation.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2014Publication date: January 1, 2015Inventors: Hiroaki AKUTSU, Akira YAMAMOTO, Shigeo HOMMA, Masanobu YAMAMOTO, Yoshinori OHIRA
