  • Patent number: 8992949
Abstract: Compositions comprising a polymer-based macroscopically homogeneous polymer alloy comprising a plurality of microcrystalline components dispersed within an amorphous component, which is biocompatible, bioerodable, substantially non-toxic, and excretable, or metabolized when introduced into a mammalian body. In preferred embodiments, malleable molded devices such as implants, films, drug delivery systems and the like, are comprised of the compositions. Methods of making such compositions by controlled cooling of the molten alloy are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100025873
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming nanoparticles employs an inkjet dispenser and a nanoparticle formation device. The inkjet dispenser includes at least one orifice. A liquid solution with a substance to be transformed into nanoscale is received in the inkjet dispenser, and is dispensed from the at least one orifice to generate a plurality of microdroplets. The nanoparticle formation device is disposed to receive the microdroplets dispensed by the inkjet dispenser and form the nanoparticles therein.

  • Publication number: 20070203502
Abstract: Apparatus for inserting intraocular lenses (IOLs) into eyes include a hollow tube including a material and having an interior wall defining a hollow space through which an IOL is passed and an outlet through which the IOL is passed from the hollow space into an eye, and a lubricity enhancing component physically secured to said hollow tube and concentrated at or near the interior wall in an amount effective to facilitate the passage of the IOL through the hollow space.

  • Patent number: 4898915
Abstract: A composition and process for making an alternating copolymerization of acceptor monomers such as acrylic acid and derivatives thereof and donor monomers containing free amine groups therein such as an aminostyrene compound. The free amine groups are initially protected by conversion to an imide derivative such as phthalimide, or the like, and then reacted with the acceptor monomers. After copolymerization, the free amine is regenerated. The alternating copolymerization reaction is usually carried out in the presence of Lewis acids which act as complexing agents. The alternating copolymers of the present invention are useful as antistatic agents or as thickening agents as in oil recovery.
