  • Publication number: 20170285176
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for locating a vehicle. A locating device receives position data and determines an approximate position of the vehicle. A remote server reports a plurality of corrections factor for a respective plurality of locations which are buffered by a transmission server into a burst transmission. The transmission server transmits the burst transmission of the correction factors over a wireless data channel. A receiver receives the burst transmission from the transmission server and a correction device extracts a selected correction factor from the burst transmission based on the approximate position to determine a refined position of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8739236
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are provided for invoking third-party call control via a cable-television host device. A video signal is received into a cable-television host device, the video signal comprising an identifier associated with a first telephony endpoint. A command is received into the cable-television host device, the command requesting establishment of a communication session between the first telephony endpoint and a second telephony endpoint. A message is transmitted via a packet-switched network from the cable-television host device to a network entity, wherein the message comprises content based at least in part on the identifier, and wherein the message further comprises content for causing the network entity to invoke third-party call control to attempt to establish the communication session between the first telephony endpoint and the second telephony endpoint.

  • Patent number: 8681782
Abstract: A plurality of public safety answering points (PSAPs) are accessible via a voice-over-packet (VoP) network. A wireless access point of the VoP network is provisioned with a PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier to facilitate the routing of emergency services calls from the wireless access point to the appropriate PSAP. When a mobile node transmits a message to originate a call, the wireless access point parses the message to determine whether the mobile node is requesting an emergency services call. If an emergency call is being requested, the wireless access point inserts the PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier with which it has been provisioned into the message and forwards the modified message to a proxy server. The proxy server receives the modified message and routes the call to the appropriate PSAP, based on the PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier contained therein.

  • Patent number: 8064575
Abstract: To facilitate improved delivery of messages via multiple messaging servers, a data abstraction layer is provided. When a first messaging server receives a message destined to a particular party served by a second messaging server, the first messaging server queries the data abstraction layer, and the data abstraction layer then queries potentially multiple databases to obtain information usable to facilitate message delivery, including presence data, preference data, and capabilities data, and provides the information to the first messaging server. The first messaging server may use the presence data to decide whether to send the message, and may use the preference data to decide which device should receive the message. When the first messaging server sends the message to the second messaging server, the first messaging server may provide the second messaging server with the capabilities data to facilitate tailoring of the message content for the destination device.

  • Patent number: 7602886
Abstract: A client device transmits, via a voice-over-packet (VoP) access network, a message that requests an emergency services call. An outbound proxy server receives the message and obtains a network-provided location of the client device, e.g., by looking up the source address of the message in a location database maintained by the access network or by invoking an active network location function. The outbound proxy server inserts the network-provided location into the message, leaving any client-provided location in the message undisturbed, and forwards the message to an emergency services routing server. The emergency services routing server determines which public safety answering point (PSAP) should receive the call, based on at least one of the network-provided location and any client-provided location in the message.

  • Patent number: 7460493
Abstract: Telephony conferences are established within a packet network. Utilization of a plurality of conference bridge resources within the packet network is monitored. A database of user profiles is maintained associating authorized users of the conference bridge resources with respective PIN codes. A host user links to a call manager to initiate a request for a conference session. The host user is authenticated according to a respective one of the user profiles to determine an authenticated PIN code for identifying the conference session. A portion of the conference bridge resources are allocated in response to the authentication. The authenticated PIN code is forwarded to the conference bridge resources. The host user links to the allocated conference bridge resources. A guest user links to the call manager to initiate a request to participate in the conference session. The guest user identifies the authenticated PIN code. The guest user links to the allocated conference bridge resources.
