  • Publication number: 20050163078
Abstract: In some illustrative embodiments, a novel system and method is provided that can, for example, extend concepts of pre-authentication (such as, e.g., IEEE 802.11i pre-authentication) so as to operate across networks or subnetworks (such as, e.g., IP subnets). In preferred embodiments, a novel architecture includes one or both of two new mechanisms that substantially improve, e.g., higher-layer handoff performance. A first mechanism is referred to as “pre-configuration,” which allows a mobile to pre-configure higher-layer information effective in candidate IP subnets to handoff. A second mechanism is referred to as “virtual soft-handoff,” which allows a mobile to send or receive packets through the candidate IP subnets even before it is actually perform a handoff to any of the candidate IP subnets.

  • Publication number: 20050165953
Abstract: In some illustrative embodiments, an IP-layer based network selection and multihoming method is provided that enables a flexible and secure dynamic selection of one or more serving networks for use by a client node. The method is independent of any link-layer technology. A serving network can be an ISP network, a NAP network exchange facility, a VLAN, or the like. Network information is advertised to a client node, the client node is authenticated and authorized for use of an access router, and a secure tunnel is established between the client node and the access router. The method can be implemented by using standard protocols, and can work over any existing or future link-layer technologies that are able to carry IP datagrams, without any modification.

  • Publication number: 20050060390
Abstract: A system and method are provided for adding network entities and appliances to a mobile wireless Internet. A graphical user interface on a user appliance or network entity is used to start a plug and play process. In the plug and play process a temporary IP address is assigned to the entity or appliance. The temporary address is tested for uniqueness. A search mechanism identifies and contacts a plug server that uses information from the user/operator to authenticate the user and/or validate subscription information. Upon authentication or validation the plug server dispatches an inspector agent to determine the software needs of the new entity or appliance. The plug server obtains the requested software from the software inventory and the inspector agent downloads the software onto the new entity or appliance and installs it therein. The element then uses the DRCP/DHCP client to obtain a new IP address.

  • Publication number: 20050044243
Abstract: A computing node accesses toll-free or at a reduced toll, a subscriber server through an access network and a global communications network, i.e., the Internet. A computing node generates a plurality of network packets including at least one packet having destination identification information. A client within the computing device receives the at least one packet and transmits the destination identification information from the at least one packet to a management server. The management server verifies the destination identification information corresponds to a registered subscriber and sends an authorization signal to the client. The client allows the plurality of network packets, which have the destination identification information corresponding to a registered subscriber server, to be transmitted to a registered subscriber server.

  • Publication number: 20040203752
Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes establishing a wireless connection with a first access point via a wireless protocol in a first sub-network by a wireless electronic device. A network address is assigned to the wireless electronic device having a telephone address. The wireless electronic device roams from the first sub-network to a second sub-network. The wireless connection is automatically disconnected with the first access point, and the wireless connection is seamlessly established with a second access point in the second sub-network. A new network address is assigned to the wireless electronic device at the second sub-network. Alternatively the network address is still assigned to the wireless electronic device at the second sub-network.

  • Patent number: 6799204
Abstract: The Dynamic Registration and Configuration Protocol (DRCP) provides a framework for registering and passing configuration information to roaming mobile hosts. DRCP is compatible with DHCP can switch to using DHCP protocol if only DHCP servers are present in the network. Most importantly, DRCP allows rapid configuration by moving address consistency checking from the critical path. Other novel features of DRCP allow: a) clients to know when to get a new address independent of the layer-2 access technology, b) efficient use of scarce wireless bandwidth, c) clients to be routers, d) dynamic addition or deletion of address pools to any DRCP node, and e) message exchange without broadcast.

  • Publication number: 20040098588
Abstract: A system and method are provided for establishing a network communication session using fast authentication. In a network system a client or user device may establish a communication session with a server using full authentication. If the session is interrupted or discontinued and resumption of the session is requested, a session identifier of the previously established session may be compared to the session identifier of the requested session. If a match is detected, the session may be resumed using a fast authentication (or re-authentication) procedure such that the session is resumed more efficiently and expediently. Fast authentication may be performed, for example, even when the first session and the resumed second session are of different authentication layers, different types of network interfaces and/or different locations. Thus, a session, such as a TLS session, may resume functionality among multiple defined authentication protocols or technologies such as 802.1X, PANA or cellular based systems.

  • Publication number: 20040095914
Abstract: The present invention provides improved quality of service through data transmission rate control in a network. Data rate control may be in the downlink or uplink direction and may be statically or dynamically configured. Rate control may be implemented at varying points in the network including but not limited to at the wireless host, at the access point, at a separate device such as a server or at a separate location within the network. In one example of the present invention, a rate enforcement function is provided for identifying data packets to be enforced or identifying mapping between each packet and corresponding access point. Also, a rate decision function is also provided for determining the data rate to be enforced for each of the access points or each of the wireless hosts.

  • Publication number: 20030142681
Abstract: A method for distributing and conditioning IP traffic for mobile networks based on differentiated services, wherein edge/border routers are only required to maintain QoS profiles for related mobile stations. A new IP address or a new service level subscription or service level agreement of an mobile station is only sent to related edge/border routers. As a result, unnecessary IP traffic is significantly reduced. The routers in accordance with methods of the invention disregard the contents of an IP payload and therefore all of the IP addresses that a mobile station may posse. A mobile station is permitted to enter into a domain and obtain a desired quality of service (e.g., Gold or Standard service) without the need to maintain the service while moving through the domain.

  • Publication number: 20020167921
Abstract: We present a novel method, Virtual Soft Hand-off for wireless IP-centric CDMA networks whose routers, hosts and mobile stations have small group multicast (SGM) capability. The underlying ideas of the virtual soft hand-off method are that it views soft hand-off support as setting up an explicit synchronous multicast session among a small group of participants with dynamic group membership, the packets transmitted over the multicast session are time stamped to help maintain synchronization and the receivers recover multiple the packet flows from the multiple received signals concurrently, and combine them to create a single packet flow at higher layers.

  • Publication number: 20020102016
Abstract: Image processing for detecting the position of a workpiece such as a semiconductor device employed in, for instance, wire boding including the step of obtaining first position (coordinates) of leads by way of imaging the leads individually after positioning the leads of a sample workpiece one at a time in the center of visual field of a camera, the step of obtaining second position (coordinates) of such respective leads by imaging all the leads that are in the visual field at one time, and the step of storing the differences between the first position and the second position in memory as a correction amount. Upon actual product manufacturing, the correction amount is added to the position (coordinates) of the respective leads of the workpiece obtained by collective imaging of the leads, thus obtaining the actual bonding point (coordinates) for the workpiece.
