Abstract: Disclosed is an aqueous coating composition which keeps in high nonvolatile contents during coating operation and is capable of being effectively applied even under a relatively high humidity condition. The coating composition imparts high orientation of metallic pigment particles to the cured film. The aqueous coating composition of the present invention comprises a specific acryl polymer varnish (a) and a specific urethane oligomer dispersion.

Abstract: Disclosed is an aqueous metallic coating composition which significantly reduces the production of hydrogen gas and does not have the problems which are brought about from hydrophobic segments. The composition can be stored for a long period of time and provide a metallic coating having good appearance and film properties (e.g. water resistance and adhesive properties with substrates). The aqueous coating composition of the present invention comprises(a) an acryl resin having a number average molecular weight of 1,000 to 50,000, an acid value of 15 to 200 and a hydroxyl value of 20 to 200, prepared by copolymerizing an ethylenic monomer and a phosphate monomer represented by ##STR1## [wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Y represents an alkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and n is an integer of 3 to 30.] and(b) a pigment;the acryl resin being present in an amount of 2 to 500 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the pigment.

Abstract: The present invention provides a water borne metallic coating composition which stably disperses a metallic pigment and provides good metallic appearance independently of coating conditions. The water borne coating composition of the present invention comprises a specific film forming polymer (I), a specific fluorine containing compound (II), a metallic pigment (III), a crosslinking agent (IV), a compound (V) selected from the group consisting of a phosphorus containing titanate coupling agent and a phosphoric mono- or di-ester of a C.sub.11- C.sub.24 organic compound.

Abstract: The present invention provide a novel coating method for forming a metallic coat having excellent appearance. The coating method comprises the successive steps of:(a) coating an article with an sealercoating composition,(b) coating the sealercoated article with an aqueous metallic basecoating composition without curing the sealercoating composition,(c) flashing and/or baking the article obtained in Step (b),(d) coating the article obtained in Step (c) with a thermosetting clear coating composition, and,(e) baking the coated article.
