  • Patent number: 6122027
Abstract: A reflective liquid crystal display device comprises a substrate, a transparent substrate facing the substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the substrate and the transparent substrate, and further comprises first transparent electrodes, an electrically insulating separating layer and a reflective film formed in that order from the liquid crystal layer side at the inward-facing surface of the substrate, and also comprises a second transparent electrode included in the inward-facing surface of the transparent substrate. The electrically insulating separating layer physically and electrically separates the reflective film made of Al from the first transparent electrodes, so that durability against chemicals at processing and reliability are improved.

  • Patent number: 5851605
Abstract: In the adhesive spacers which are synthesized as by the impact method in a high-speed air current, resin particles formed solely of an adhesive layer are included in a large amount besides those of adhesive spacers. An adhesive particulate composition is obtained by adjusting these resin particles in terms of grain size. The adhesive particulate composition containing (a) adhesive particles having a thermoplastic resin-containing layer cover at least part of the surfaces of the core particles having an average particle diameter in the range of 1 to 20 .mu.m and a coefficient of variation of not more than 10% and (b) adhesive layer particles formed of the thermoplastic resin and having a ratio of the number of (b) the adhesive layer particles to that of (a) the adhesive particles of not more than 30%, adhesive spacers for a liquid crystal display panel formed of the composition, and the liquid crystal display panel using the spacers are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5537235
Abstract: In an LCD, there are provided plural kinds of spacers, each kind of spacers having different diameters being arranged at a desired portion. Difference in gap between the displaying portion and the peripheral portion can be compensated by the difference of the sizes of the spacers. Such arrangement of spacers are provided by dropping plural fluids, each including a liquid crystal and spacers on either substrate consecutively such that drops of each fluid are regularly arranged at a desired portion. The gap of the peripheral portion can be made larger than that of the middle portion of the displaying portion. At an edge portion of the displaying portion, spacers having intermediate size may be arranged. The gap between the electrodes at an edge portion may be made larger than that of the middle portion of the displaying portion to compensate affection of resistances of wiring from a drive circuit or unevenness of temperature caused by backlighting.

  • Patent number: 5263888
Abstract: A method of manufacture of a liquid crystal display panel is described whereby a fixed number of drops of liquid crystal, or a mixture of liquid crystal and spacers, are dropped at various positions on an electrode face of at least one of a pair of substrates, with the amount of liquid crystal in each of the drops being predetermined to a very high degree of accuracy. One of the substrates is then superposed on the other, under a condition of reduced air pressure, then under a condition of normal atmospheric pressure, mutual lateral position adjustment of the substrates is performed to a high degree of precision.
