  • Patent number: 4388098
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a multi-component glass fiber preform includes a multi-conduit burner 31 having five concentric conduits 31a-31e, the center three conduits (a), (b) and (c) being flush with each other at their ends, the fourth conduit d, interposed between the third (c) and outermost conduit (e) extends axially beyond the first three. The burner has a flange 33 to direct the flame onto a substrate. In operation glass raw material is fed through the inner-most conduit (a) by a carrier gas. The material emitted from conduits (a -d) is mixed in a mixing area 32. Glass raw material and a nebulized dopant salt solution are emitted and burned with hydrogen gas depositing particulate glass material or soot on an adjacent substrate to produce a multi-component glass fiber preform.

  • Patent number: 4336049
Abstract: A method for producing a multi-component glass fiber preform which comprises the steps of nebulizing an aqueous solution of at least one metal salt, and reacting the nebulized solution and a gaseous glass raw material with oxygen gas at a high temperature to produce particulate glass material deposited on a substrate. Apparatus for producing such a preform is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4261689
Abstract: In the construction of an electro-magnetic fluid pump such as an air pump in which a piston assembly carrying an armature is driven for reciprocal axial movement due to operational combination of magnetic attraction generated by a stator core and mechanical spring repulsion for cyclic discharge of the fluid out of its piston chamber, the piston assembly is postively supported on both axial sides of the stator core and a pneumatic spring is incorporated within the piston assembly. Biased movement of the piston assembly and bias in the magnetic attraction are both successfully prevented in order to minimize undesirable abrasion of the piston assembly and its related parts.

  • Patent number: 4226564
Abstract: A blanket feeder type glass batch feeding apparatus for preventing the leakage of the atmosphere in a glass melting furnace is provided. The glass batch feeding apparatus comprises a sealing case for surrounding a reciprocally movable batch feeding trough and extending to a batch feeding opening of the glass melting furnace, a shelter plate disposed at the outlet of the sealing case and a damper plate disposed in the sealing case wherein the shelter plate and the damper plate are respectively contacted with a glass batch layer fed into the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4090816
Abstract: In an electromagnetic fluid operating apparatus such as an air compressor in which a piston with an armature axially reciprocates along a path substantially at a right angle to the magnetic flux generated by a stator core due to alternate operation by electromagnetic attraction and mechanical repulsion, exact collimations are automatically established between the armature and the stator core and between the piston and a cylinder for the piston when they are assembled together, thereby minimizing biased frictional abrasion of coacting sliding surfaces. Provision of an internal air reservoir at the air outlet terminal effectively reduces pulsation of air supplied by the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4032264
Abstract: In a closed-type compressor with an electromagnetic reciprocating drive, reliable and stable collimation of the electromagnetic driving part with the compressive pumping part is easily established by a snug engagement of fitting seats provided in the coupling plane of the two parts and lubrication of the piston and its related part is effected by a built-in type lubrication mechanism utilizing the flow of the gas returning from the given circulation system with simplified construction as well as in the case of compressors with rotary drive, the compressor being preferably used for cooling systems.

  • Patent number: 3950073
Abstract: An eccentric core optical waveguide comprising at least one glass core having relatively large refraction index disposed in an outer cylindrical glass jacket having larger diameter than that of the glass core and relatively small refraction index. The one or more glass core being so arranged as to made tangential contact with the inner wall of the glass jacket or a dielectric thin film coated inside the jacket at a small area. The space between the glass core and the outer glass jacket or said thin film is filled by air.
