  • Patent number: 4454748
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the content of hydrogen dissolved in a molten metal, comprising an immersion head immersed within a batch of the molten metal to bring an inert gas into contact with the molten metal, an inert gas circulating device connected to the immersion head and having gas passages cooperating with the immersion head to form a closed circulatory path for circulating the inert gas a plurality of times through the path to and from the immersion head. The apparatus further comprises a hydrogen gas content measuring device connected to the gas passage for measuring the hydrogen-content of the inert gas flowing through the gas passage, the measuring device comprising a first measuring cell connected to the gas passage and having therein an electric resistance wire exposed to the circulated inert gas containing the hydrogen picked up from the molten metal, and further comprising a second measuring cell filled with atmosphere whose thermal conductivity is substantially equal to that of the inert gas.

  • Patent number: 4330344
Abstract: A selective absorber of solar energy using an aluminum alloy sheet as a substrate on which a chemical conversion coating is initially formed. The coating is subsequently oxidized into a dark-colored coating of selective solar absorption nature. Also disclosed is a process which comprises a chemical conversion treatment step for formation of the initial coating, and a high-temperature oxidation treatment step for final formation of the selective coating for solar energy absorption.

  • Patent number: 4203490
Abstract: The heat exchanger core comprises a fluid passage member, within which a fluid flows and outside of which another fluid flows and fin members formed on the fluid passage member for promoting heat exchange between the two fluids. The fluid passage member and the fin members are made of different kinds of aluminum alloys. The fin members serve as sacrificial anodes as well for protecting the heat exchanger core from corrosion.

  • Patent number: 3935084
Abstract: A colored oxide film on the surface of aluminium or an alloy thereof can be formed by anodizing at a D.C. voltage in an electrolyte based on sulfuric acid, followed by alternating current electrolysis at an A.C. voltage which is lower than the D.C. voltage. In order to increase the degree of coloring of the colored oxide film, after the alternating current electrolysis the A.C. voltage is raised to a higher level but lower than the D.C. voltage, followed by dropping the voltage down to a level of the A.C. voltage or thereabout.

  • Patent number: 3935349
Abstract: A paint film based on a thermo-setting resin which is applied on an aluminum article may be improved in its adhesion properties and resistance to chemical and mechanical attacks as well as in its resistance to weathering, if the surface of the aluminum article is previously anodized to form the oxide surface layer or is treated in boiling water to form the boehmite surface layer and if the oxide surface layer, including the boehmite layer, is pre-treated with a silane compound prior to the application of the coating composition. The application of the paint composition is conducted in this invention by means of a known coating technique such as dipping, spraying, showering, brushing or roller-coating, other than the electro-deposition technique.
