  • Publication number: 20220333940
Abstract: A method and related system are provided for estimating or predicting an output value of a first ambient parameter (AP). Sensors generate a plurality of time-paired training values of the first AP, a second AP, and accuracy factor(s) affecting the accuracy of the measured first or second APs. A computer uses the training values, and trust coefficients based on the accuracy factor to train an air quality prediction model for estimating or predicting the output value of the first AP based on a measured input value of the second AP. The computer estimates or predicts the output value of the first AP by applying the trained air quality prediction model to the input value of the second AP. The estimated or predicted output value of the first AP may be used to calibrate the accuracy of measured values of the first AP, or forecast future values of the first AP.

  • Patent number: 8798662
Abstract: Transmission of data from a portable communication device to a station via a radio frequency signal uses a protocol that has recurring frames, each having a plurality of transmission slots, different numbers of which can be used to transmit the data. When the portable communication device desires to send a data transmission, a first value is selected for either a power level for the radio frequency signal or the number of transmission slots to use. Then the first value is used to select a second value for the other one of the power level and the number of transmission slots. The first and second values are selected so that the data transmission at the selected power level using the selected number of transmission slots does not result in a specific absorption rate that is greater than a specific absorption rate limit.

  • Patent number: 8774743
Abstract: Real-time calibration of a tunable matching network that matches the dynamic impedance of an antenna in a radio frequency receiver system. The radio frequency receiver system includes two non-linear equations that may be solved to determine the reflection coefficient of the antenna. The tunable matching network is repeatedly perturbed and the power received by the antenna is measured after each perturbation at the same node in the matching network. The measured power values are used by an optimizer in converging to a solution that provides the reflection coefficient of the antenna. The reflection coefficient of the antenna may be used to determine the input impedance of the antenna. The elements of the matching circuit are then adjusted to match the input impedance of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 8358615
Abstract: Transmission of data from a portable communication device to a base station via a radio frequency signal uses a plurality of modulation and coding schemes and a protocol that has recurring frames. Each frame has a plurality of transmission slots, different numbers of which can be used to transmit data. When it is desired to transmit data a higher rate than was used previously, an attempt is made to increase the number transmission slots being used. If doing so, produces a transmission results in a specific absorption rate limit being exceeded, then the modulation and coding scheme is changed to one having a greater data coding rate. The power level and the number transmission slots then are set so that the data transmission does not exceed the specific absorption rate limit. The data is then transmitted by the portable communication device.

  • Publication number: 20110309992
Abstract: An antenna assembly features a single ground plane with notches spaced apart from each other along edges of the ground plane. The notches are located at a non-coupling distance from an antenna that is positioned at an edge opposite from the notched edges of the ground plane. The notches are configured to extend the electrical length of the ground plane and dimensioned to have a maximum length that eliminates radiation along the individual notches.
