  • Publication number: 20130017814
Abstract: A mobile electronic device is used with a case and contains a processor, at least one electric-field proximity detector adapted to detect a non-magnetic proximity activator in the case and a component configured to effect setting a state indicator in a device profile in dependence on an output from the at least one electric-field proximity detector.

  • Publication number: 20120146875
Abstract: An antenna design technique which allows antennas to be self-matched while supporting multi-band and broadband operations. The technique includes adding a raised and curved ground plane section electrically coupled to the ground plane. The curved ground plane section allows for a smooth transition of the surface current hence a boarder bandwidth is achieved. A slit positioned between the ground plane and the ground plane section can also be used to further improve the antenna bandwidth. The technique does not increase the antenna thickness neither its volume, thus allowing application in slim handheld device applications such as flip phones. Using this technique, a narrow band antenna is made broadband to cover several frequency bands of interest. The technique is applied to a quad-band antenna to broaden its bandwidth to become a sept-band antenna. The technique is used to also improve the antenna match at all the seven bands it supports.

  • Publication number: 20120021800
Abstract: A radiation power level control scheme for a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, a power data history associated with the wireless UE device is maintained, the power data history comprising data tracked over a time window (e.g., a sliding time window) relative to one or more variables on a per transmission event basis. A component of the UE device is configured to determine a time-average transmission power level. Another component is configured to compare the time-average transmission power level with a first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold having a value that depends on a transmission power data history for the UE device. A still further component is provided, operable responsive to the average transmission power level meeting or exceeding the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, that is configured to reduce a transmission power level of the UE device.

  • Publication number: 20110260929
Abstract: Antenna assembly having an electrically or virtually extended ground plane, adapted for use in a mobile communications device, for example. The antenna assembly comprises at least one radiation element having an operating frequency and a ground plane coupled to the radiation element. At least one conductive member is electrically coupled to the ground plane at one or more connection points such that the conductive member forms a loop with the ground plane having a minimum distance therefrom that is less than a predetermined fraction of one wavelength of the operating frequency.

  • Patent number: 8044863
Abstract: An antenna assembly is formed on a rectangular polyhedron support that has two sections projecting away from opposite sides of an electrically non-conductive substrate. An electrically conductive stripe wraps around the support and comprises a plurality of segments on different surfaces of the support. A conductive patch is located on two surfaces of the support to provide impedance matching between the antenna and a radio frequency circuit. By placing sections of the antenna assembly on both sides of the substrate and wrapping the conductive stripe around those sections, the space required to accommodate the antenna assembly within a housing of a communication device is reduced, as compared to some prior antenna designs.

  • Patent number: 7911392
Abstract: An antenna assembly has a plurality of conductive elements to enable use in multiple frequency bands assigned for a mobile wireless communications. The antenna assembly has a six-sided support frame non-electrically conductive material which provides external surfaces on which specific conductive patterns are formed with the patterns on different surface being selectively connected together. The support frame is mounted on one major surface of a dielectric substrate that has an opposite major surface with a conductive layer that serves as ground plane. A portion of the opposite major surface, on which the conductive layer is not applied, forms one surface of the support frame.
