Patent number: 7873968Abstract: A position detecting device of an optical drive utilizes a simple wire to connect a CPU of the optical drive to a latch part and a fixing part, such that the latch part, the CPU and the fixing part, which are original parts of the optical drive, form a detecting circuit. When the latch part clasps or releases a tray, the latch part latches or releases the fixing part to close or open the detecting circuit so that the CPU can correctly judge whether the tray enters for positioning, and thus start or shut down the optical drive. In addition, the members such as a flexible cable, a casing and a mainboard may replace parts of the wire to simplify the detecting circuit.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2006Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Quanta Storage Inc.Inventor: Shiu-Ming Chu

Publication number: 20100238779Abstract: A device and method for determining defect sectors on an optical disc receives writing commands and data by a processor, and saves the writing data in a memory. An error correction code (ECC) encodes the writing data into encoded digital signals, and the encoded digital signals form modulated digital signals by a modulation device which are saved back into the storage. The processor controls a pick-up head to write and read the modulated digital signals. A comparing unit generates a number of errors by comparing the modulated digital signals before and after writing. The defect sector is directly determined if the number of errors are low or high. The modulated digital signal is decoded to determine the defect sector based on the failure or success of decoding if the number of errors lie in the middle of the range.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 14, 2010Publication date: September 23, 2010Inventors: Shih-Kuo Chen, Chin-Fa Hsu, Shiu-Ming Chu

Publication number: 20090097369Abstract: A method for adjusting recording power is provided. The addresses of changing recording velocity and section pause points are set. Then, the recording power in the inner circle is tested with the lowest rate, and the recording power on each high rate area is estimated. A required record data is recorded. Afterwards, whether the recording of the required record data is completed is determined. If confirmed, the recording process is terminated; otherwise, whether the recording velocity needs to be changed is determined. If confirmed, the recording is paused to change the recording velocity, otherwise, the recording process continues. The recording of required record data continues according to the estimated recording power and the recording power is tested to obtain an optimum recording power. Next, the recording power is adjusted to the optimum recording power to continue recording the rest of required record data, so as to enhance the recording quality.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2008Publication date: April 16, 2009Applicant: QUANTA STORAGE INC.Inventors: Shih-Kuo Chen, Chin-Fa Hsu, Ming-Hung Chen, Shiu-Ming Chu
