  • Patent number: 6106383
Abstract: An air gage is integrally constructed within a honing tool having a body formed as a removable outer shell on which is mounted the abrasive elements of the tool. The shell is mounted on a mandrel which contains means to adjust the radial position of the abrasive elements which engage the adjustment means through slots in the shell. The air gage allows monitoring of tool performance during a honing operation.

  • Patent number: 4508476
Abstract: A boring tool is disclosed capable of positioning a tool element between a radial cutting position and a radial retracted position out of contact with the finished workpiece bore to avoid tool mark formation on the finished bore during tool withdrawal. The boring tool is simple and low cost in construction and includes a resilient tool-carrying member which extends transversely of the spindle axis in cantilever fashion for deflection by a spindle draw bar relative to a stop means on a fixed support member attachable to the spindle. During boring, the tool-carrying member is in deflecting engagement with the drawbar and, in conjunction with stop means, positions the tool thereon in a radial cutting position. For tool withdrawal, deflecting engagement is released so that the resiliency of the tool-carrying member positions the tool in a radial retracted position out of contact with the finished workpiece bore.

  • Patent number: 4464085
Abstract: The cutting tool includes a cutting insert retention pin with an intermediate radial flange adapted to engage a crescent-shaped bottom wall or shoulder in a specially-configured pin-receiving cavity in the toolholder insert pocket and thereby cause the retention pin to tilt in an insert locking direction in the cavity. The pin-receiving cavity is formed by first and second intersecting circular counterbores and a tapped hole with the first counterbore and tapped hole being coaxial and the second counterbore being offset toward an abutment surface in the toolholder pocket and deeper than the first counterbore.

  • Patent number: 4439074
Abstract: A boring tool includes a central shaft which carries a tool head on a shaft working end and which is mounted in a rotatable bushing for eccentric movement in the tool body. For work adjustment up to 1.00 inch on diameter, the tool head is radially slidable on the working end of the central shaft by an adjustment screw arrangement while the shaft is held by the bushing. For micro-adjustment, the bushing is rotated to move the shaft working end in an eccentric path with a key on the tool body translating this movement into radial micro-adjustment of the tool head to 0.0001 inch.

  • Patent number: 4428704
Abstract: A tool cartridge to be fastened to a boring bar for line boring operations comprising a pair of split legs on the tool cartridge. Each leg has an insert with a threaded bore having a different pitch. A differential screw comprising two threads on the shaft corresponding to the two different threaded bores on each insert effects a micro-adjustment of the radially moveable leg on the cartridge holding the cutting tool when the differential screw is rotated.
