  • Patent number: 6117071
Abstract: An electronic endoscope includes a charge coupled device and provides macro-zooming function. The endoscope comprises an imaging unit including a plurality of optical elements forming an optical system and a support and guide mechanism for supporting and/or guiding the optical elements. The optical elements include a fixed lens, movable lenses, and a CCD. The support and guide mechanism comprises a casing including inner and outer cylinders. The axis of the inner cylinder defines a reference axis. A cam cylinder is fitted over the inner cylinder and is guided for rotational movement with no axial movement. An axial slider is fitted over the cam cylinder and guided for axial movement with no rotational movement. The axial slider is driven for axial movement through a manipulating lever provided on a handpiece. First and second carriages are fitted in the inner cylinder and guided for axial movement with no rotational movement.

  • Patent number: 5752912
Abstract: A manipulator for a flexible portion of an endoscope includes a rotatable pulley provided in an operating portion of the endoscope, and a pliable pull rope which is wound about the pulley. One end of the pull rope is connected to the pulley. The flexible front end portion is provided at an insertion portion of the endoscope to be remotely bendable through the pull rope when the pull rope is pulled in accordance with a rotation of the pulley. The pull rope is made of braided non-metallic fibers so as to have a high pliability.

  • Patent number: 5370108
Abstract: An endoscope having a bendable portion that is connected to the distal end of a flexible insert tube constituting an insert part of the endoscope, the bendable portion being bendable as desired by remote control, a solid-state image pickup device that is disposed in a distal end block connected to the distal end of the bendable portion, and a signal cable that is connected to the solid-state image pickup device and extended through the bendable portion and the flexible insert tube. The endoscope includes a flexible tube that covers the signal cable in both the bendable portion and the flexible insert tube, and a braid tube that covers the outer surface of the flexible tube in the bendable portion.

  • Patent number: 5073048
Abstract: An optical fiber bundle for an endoscope or the like which can be subjected to cyclic bending at a small radius of curvature without causing fiber breakage. The fiber bundle includes a plurality of optical fibers bound at both ends but with individual fibers being freely movable inside the middle portion of the bundle, which is covered by a flexible tube. A gelling fluid coating the fibers is filled in the flexible tube.
