  • Patent number: 5649775
Abstract: After document data have been inputted by operating character keys, if an automatic setting key is operated to allow the print character size to be set automatically and a print key is then operated, printing process control is executed and the greatest character size printable on a tape mounted in the tape printing apparatus is set (S33), a base line position shifting process is performed so that the character is positioned around the center of the width of the tape (S34). Then, dot image data in the print character size that is set on the basis of the document data is generated (S31) and the dot image data is output to the printing mechanism to be printed on the tape (S32).

  • Patent number: 5609424
Abstract: When a label name is selected, a plurality of prompt associated with the selected label name are displayed one after the other on a display so that a user can easily know what text data needs to be inputted. The text memory stores text data inputted as prompted by each of the plurality of prompts associated with the selected label name. Also the text memory retrieves, from a registration layout information memory, print layout information for printing the inputted text data. The print mechanism prints the text data stored in the text memory on a tape based on the print layout information. In this way, a label printed with the text data, that can be adhered to the binding of files and the like, can be produced quickly and easily.

  • Patent number: 5549399
Abstract: An apparatus and method of printing characters and symbols either vertically or horizontally on an elongated recording medium adjusts the position of vertically printed characters and symbols so that the vertically printed characters and symbols are evenly spaced on the recording medium. When a vertical printing is to be accomplished, dot pattern data in a data development buffer is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise, and transferred to a vertical data development buffer. The rotated dot pattern data for each character is then moved in the longitudinal direction of the recording medium, as necessary, to ensure that each character will be positioned in the middle of its character pitch. The longitudinal adjustment ensures that the upper and the lower margin of each character are equal.

  • Patent number: 5403101
Abstract: A tape printer includes a thermal head (13) fixedly mounted on a frame (2) wherein the thermal head (13) prints character strings on a tape (5) uni-directionally moving past the thermal head (13). A keyboard (3) is provided for entering characters and data regarding a number of print lines. Character code data corresponding to the entered characters are temporarily stored in line buffer (41), and the thermal head (13 ) prints the character strings in a plurality of lines on the tape (5) based on the character code data and print line number data. Each of the plurality of print lines can be enhanced on a line basis with one of flush left, centering, flush right, and justification. When at least one of the plurality of lines is to be enhanced, the longest character string contained in one line is identified and the rest of the lines are printed in relevant positions referring to the print position of the longest character string.

  • Patent number: 5399030
Abstract: The document data of a plurality of blocks are input and an auto size is set. After this, when a print key is operated, the data concerning the width of a tape is read out by a cassette distinction sensor. Then, the block number is calculated based on the document data stored in the text memory, and further, the linage of the first block is calculated. The print size is calculated based on the size table corresponding to the tape width data and the linage to be printed. The base line position of each print line is calculated based on the print size, the document data, the tape width data and the linage. The dot pattern data in each line which is formed based on the print size and the document data is developed into the print buffer based on the base line position. When the processing in each block is completed, the print processing is executed. Thus, various blocks of print on the tape may be set to different sizes.

  • Patent number: 5393147
Abstract: An operator inputs characters from a keyboard. The characters are stored in the form of character codes. The operator sets an overall frame and a partial frame to decide characters to be enclosed in the frames by editing character codes symbolically displayed on the liquid crystal display. In this process, both ends of the frames are also encoded into character codes. After the operator enters an execution key, the character codes are converted into bit image data by means of a character generator. The image data for characters, the overall frame and the partial frame are combined on the image buffer. When the image data is ready, the image data is transferred to the thermal head via a driving circuit, and the printing process is executed on a printing medium. An array of printing mechanisms substantially extending across the width of the tape printing medium allow the printing device to execute the whole printing process while sending the medium in one direction.

  • Patent number: 5382100
Abstract: A wordprocessing device which comprises a keyboard for inputting a plurality of characters; a character size key for selecting the size of the characters, a justification key to justify the characters input from the keyboard. When a character string that comprises characters having different character sizes, is to be justified, the determination of tile justify space to be Inserted between adjacent characters depends on the size of the respective adjacent characters.

  • Patent number: 5374131
Abstract: A printer capable of printing characters within a frame is disclosed. In such printer, when the frame start key on the keyboard is depressed, the frame start code data is inserted in the text memory and when the frame terminating key on the keyboard is depressed, the frame terminating code data is inserted in the text memory. Thereafter, according to depressing of the print key, the frame spaces are formed at both the frame start code data and the frame terminating code data. And the frame start point and the frame terminating point are respectively set to the frame space corresponding to the frame start code data and the frame space corresponding to the frame terminating code data. Further, the image data of the character code data stored in the text memory is prepared, and at the same time, the image data of the frame is prepared according to the frame start point and the frame terminating point. At that time, the image data of the frame is prepared so that the frame spaces are included within the frame.

  • Patent number: 5344247
Abstract: A printing device, which is capable of printing image onto a tape-type recording medium along the longitudinal direction of the tape-type recording medium, is also capable of printing the image on the tape-type recording medium in a rotated fashion with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tape-type recording medium. When the image is printed with a certain rotation, it is discriminated whether a length of the image to be printed in the rotated fashion in the width direction of the tape-type recording medium is smaller than the width of the tape-type recording medium. Then the size of the image to be printed is reduced if the length of the image is greater than or equal to the width of the tape-type recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5322375
Abstract: After an operator inputs text data and presses the print execution key, a console for setting the size of characters appears on the display. Setting auto-mode in this step initiates the process of data examination. If the whole text consists of code data for capital alphabets and numerals, the control unit calculates the magnification power Q for magnifying original characters to maximum characters, and the printing device prints the text in maximum size.

  • Patent number: 5294202
Abstract: In a printing device for printing bar-codes, a string of characters and symbols representing the contents of the bar-codes are printed under the bar-codes by replacing the lower part of the dot pattern with the dot pattern for the string. The present invention is characterized in that the printing device has a decision means for deciding whether or not to print characters and for printing bar-codes with a sufficient height for reading operation by bar-code readers. The printing device automatically omits the string of characters when a character size set by an operator is not large enough to print a string and a bar-code in juxtaposition.
