Abstract: There is described image-processing methods and image processing apparatus, which enable sharpness, scaling coefficients, and image quality to be adjusted with minimum image noise and minimum image quality deterioration and at high processing speed. One of the image-processing methods for creating processed image data by applying a spatial-filtering processing to source image data, comprises the steps of: setting a predetermined upper-limit value for a variation amount of the source image data, before performing an image-conversion processing through which the source image data are converted to the processed image data by applying the spatial-filtering processing; and performing the image-conversion processing for the source image data within a range of the variation amount limited by the predetermined upper-limit value.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus is provided with an optical system to for irradiating light to an image document, for detecting light transmitting through the image document or light reflected from the image document and for converting the light into electric signals, thereby obtaining a first image information, the optical system having an amount of flare; a flare amount memory for memorizing an amount of flare of the optical system; a flare component calculator for obtaining a flare component contained in the first image information on the basis of the first image information and the flare amount of the optical system; and a controller for determining on the basis of the flare component a copy condition on which the image document is copied.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing image information coming from various types of image inputting media yields an image processor for processing image information that consolidates image size irrespective of the type of image inputting medium. The apparatus is provided with a plurality of image inputting media, each of which inputs image information as a first image information having a fixed image size. An image size converter converts the fixed image size to a predetermined image size which is a constant image size independent of both the fixed image size and the type of image inputting medium that inputs the first image information. The conversion generates a second image information and a data generator generates conditional data for processing the second image information. An image processor processes the second image information using predetermined image processing procedures, based on the conditional data, to generate a third image information.

Abstract: A method of processing an image includes steps of: obtaining data concerning the brightness of an original image; dividing the data concerning the brightness into a plurality of groups for each brightness domain on the basis of the histogram of the data concerning the brightness; preparing correction information for correcting the data concerning the brightness for each of the plurality of groups, and executing image processing to the original image on the basis of the correction information.
