  • Patent number: 6455476
Abstract: A lubricant composition for the plastic working of metals that does not require a phosphate undercoating, is waterborne, requires only a simple application process of immersion or spraying followed by drying, and provides an excellent lubricating performance comprises synthetic resin, water-soluble inorganic salt, and water. The weight ratio of the content of salt to that of synthetic resin is from 0.25:1 to 9: 1. This composition can also contain liquid and/or solid lubricating agent(s) and an extreme pressure additive.

  • Patent number: 4433717
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bow type continuous casting process using a curved mold, wherein molten steel is continuously cast into the curved mold to obtain a curved strand, e.g. a slab, having a thickness of not less than 200 mm.The improvement of this invention resides in that the curved strand is straightened at a plurality of points at regions of the strand where the thickness of the solidified shell is not more than 60 mm. The obtained strand can be directly supplied to rolling without the necessity of removing the defects from the strand or without reheating the strand.

  • Patent number: 4370910
Abstract: Using a pair of driven knifing rolls having annular wedges therearound, one above the other, a relatively hot metal piece having a rectangular cross-section is cut into three or more narrower widths. The annular wedges hold and bite into the metal piece being transferred in the longitudinal direction thereof, thus forming V-shaped grooves in the metal. The angle formed between that flank which is closer to the as-cast side of the metal piece to be cut, upon which no cutting force is exerted, and a perpendicular to the roll axis is greater than the angle formed between the opposite flank and the same perpendicular, so that the cross-sectional shape of the annular wedge is asymmetrical with respect to a line segment that passes through the pointed end of the wedge and extends perpendicular to the axis of the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4106318
Abstract: In the rolling of metallic material by using a rolling mill having a working roll for each surface of the workpiece reduced and having the shafts fixed with respect to movement in the direction of travel of the workpiece, the workpiece is rolled at such a high reduction rate in cross-sectional area that the contact angle .theta. between the working roll and the workpiece can have a value of .gtoreq. tan.sup.-1 .mu. (.mu. being the coefficient of friction between the working roll and the workpiece), and the rolling operation is carried out by pushing the workpiece between the working rolls, so that a neutral point of relative movements between the rods and the workpiece wire remain within the surface along which the working roll and the workpiece contact each other.
