Patent number: 7027168Abstract: A complex-type image forming device operative for a first function (copy function) and a second function (printer function or facsimile function) is reduced in waiting time for a user to use it for the copy function. More specifically, the image forming device comprises: an image forming main body operative in at least two different functions including a first function and a second function, a first output (copy output) having an image formed by said first function and a second output having an image formed by said second function being discharged from a same paper outlet; and a finisher including a first bin for receiving the first output (copy output) and a printer bin for receiving the second output, which are selectively set in the position at the paper outlet such that, when the second bin is in the position at the paper outlet, if an original to be copied is set, or if an automatic original feeder or a platen is raised, the second bin is replaced by the first bin.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2001Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba, Toshiba Tec Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shunsuke Katahira

Patent number: 6725323Abstract: An electronic apparatus and method for updating data in a flash read only memory (ROM) in an electronic apparatus. The electronic apparatus, which may be an image forming apparatus having copying and printing functions, has a first board connected to an external device, and a second board connected to the first board. If flash ROM-updating data received from the external device is not data used for updating the flash ROM on the first board, this updating data is forwarded to the second board. On the basis of the updating data forwarded from the first board, the flash ROM of the second board is updated. The updated data may be forwarded to a third board if the data is not data for updating the flash ROM on the second board.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba, Toshiba Tec Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shunsuke Katahira

Patent number: 6684290Abstract: A memory rewriting apparatus is provided which does not require ROMs other than a flash ROM while enabling use of interrupts, and in which a program for switching between a normal operation and a program rewriting operation is not complicated. In the memory rewriting apparatus of the present invention, a CPU 10 includes a port output terminal PT and selection output terminals CS0, CS1 and CS2. A memory map switching circuit 20 is provided which is connected with those output terminals, a flash ROM and a RAM. The CPU sets the port output terminal to an “L” level in a normal operation, and to an “H” level at the time of rewriting a flash ROM program, so that a memory map takes a condition as shown in FIG. 2(a) in the normal operation, whereas it takes another condition as shown in FIG. 2(c) in the program rewriting operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2001Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba, Toshiba Tec Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shunsuke Katahira

Publication number: 20030210919Abstract: This invention is to provide a four-series tandem type full-color copying machine in which the position of a conveyor belt is changed in the monochrome mode and color mode to prevent drums used for color copying from being brought into contact with the conveyor belt in the monochrome mode. Therefore, switching from the monochrome mode to the color mode or from the color mode to the monochrome mode is immediately started when the user places a document on an ADF and the specification of mode switching is made by use of a color/monochrome mode switching key, and as a result, time in which the user is kept waiting can be shortened.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2001Publication date: November 13, 2003Applicant: TOSHIBA TEC KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Shunsuke Katahira

Patent number: 4584611Abstract: A method and apparatus for driving a CCD image sensor is provided in which the time period of subscan can be a continuous value responsive to the amount of image information received by the CCD image sensor. The control time periods of the CCD image sensor are separated into first control time periods which are fixed in duration and second control time periods which are variable. The first and second control time periods alternate. Image information signals are obtained by exposure of the CCD image sensor during the first control time periods and are outputted during the second control time periods. These second control time periods vary in accordance with the amount of image information received by the CCD image sensor during the first control time periods.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1983Date of Patent: April 22, 1986Assignee: Tokyo Shibaura Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shunsuke Katahira
