  • Patent number: 4529209
Abstract: A rotary shaft of a hydraulic machine has a collar projecting radially outwardly therefrom. The rotary shaft and the collar are encased by a casing which carries a seal ring to be pressed against an axial end surface of the collar to form a fluid-tight seal therebetween. The axial end surface of the collar slidingly contacting with the seal ring is provided with a plurality of radial grooves extending from the central portion of the collar to the outer peripheral edge thereof. As the rotary shaft rotates at a high speed, a centrifugal force is generated to separate sand and soil particles from the water within the radial grooves.

  • Patent number: 4416555
Abstract: A bearing system for a vertical type rotary machine including a vertically extending rotor shaft including a guide bearing immersed in oil in an oil tank disposed around the rotor shaft. The guide bearing has a cylindrical bearing surface juxtaposed against the peripheral surface of the rotor shaft and a plurality of axially extending oil grooves formed in the cylindrical bearing surface. An oil guide member is mounted on a lower end surface of the guide bearing adjacent to the open lower axial end of each oil groove. Each oil guide member has a guide surface facing a flow of oil in the oil tank induced by the rotation of the rotor shaft for guiding the oil flow into the associated oil groove. The guide surface has a lower edge thereof remote from the lower end surface of the guide bearing, which is advanced toward the direction of oil flow with respect to an upper edge of the guide surface adjacent to the lower end surface of the guide bearing.

  • Patent number: 4291926
Abstract: A guide bearing device for vertical rotary shafts including a plurality of segmental pads disposed circumferentially equidistantly around the rotary shaft, a plurality of adjusting bolts each supporting the respective segmental pads for pivotal movement, a housing containing the segmental pads and adjustably mounting the adjusting bolts and filled with lubricating oil, and a plurality of cooling pads each formed with an oil passage and arranged between the two adjacent segmental pads for pivotal movement, each of the cooling pads defining between its inner surface and the outer circumferential surface of the rotary shaft a gap which is thicker than the gap defined between a sliding surface of the respective segmental pads and the outer circumferential surface of the rotary shaft, said oil passage of each cooling pad communicating with a pressurized oil supply source and discharging lubricating oil toward the outer circumferential surface of the rotary shaft.

  • Patent number: 4190396
Abstract: An impeller secured to a shaft in a vertical type sodium turbine pump is interposed between a suction tube and an impeller casing. A mouth ring in an impeller is positioned in the close proximity of a lower ring secured to the suction tube, while an impeller ring protruding from a crown ring is positioned in the close proximity of an upper ring secured to an impeller casing, with a given clearance maintained therebetween.Pockets are provided in the surface of the mouth ring positioned close to the lower ring as well as in the surface of the impeller ring positioned close to the upper ring, so that there may be produced a static bearing action by molten sodium between the mouth ring and the lower ring, as well as between the impeller ring and the upper ring.
