  • Patent number: 4552477
Abstract: A container of paint or other liquid is seated within a pressurized vessel. Both the vessel and the paint container are designed with a special orientation. This assures that only the specially-designed paint container will be received within the pressurized vessel, and discourages the use of a standard commercially-available can of paint. The top of the paint container is closed by a diaphragm. The diaphragm has an annular recess normally closed by a removable plug. When the plug is removed, a delivery pipe sealingly carried by the vessel lid extends through the diaphragm and is received vertically within the paint container. A small opening in the diaphragm assures that the pressure internally and externally of the paint container will be substantially equalized. The delivery pipe is connected to a flexible feed tube, and the end of the feed tube is connected to a hand-held applicator. The applicator carries an on/off switch for interrupting the flow of paint to the applicator.

  • Patent number: 4457642
Abstract: An apparatus for applying liquid to a surface includes an outer vessel, an inner liquid container which is housed within the outer vessel and which is substantially closed but includes an inlet for pressurized gas and a separate outlet for liquid, and means for supplying pressurized gas to the container. An interface of the container and the outer vessel is sealed around the inlet for pressurized gas whereby in use a region of the space between the outer vessel and the inner container is not pressurized. The unpressurized region of the outer vessel is vented. An applicator is connected via a length of flexible tube to the liquid outlet.

  • Patent number: 4453651
Abstract: A cartridge assembly for a fluent substance dispenser includes a cartridge having an elongate chamber containing a fluent substance to be dispensed and a piston mounted at one end of the chamber for movement along the chamber. The other end of the chamber is provided with an outlet for the fluent substance, and a valve member is mounted inside the cartridge over the inside of the outlet and is movable away from a closed position to an open position by a member, in the form of a nozzle, pressed against the valve member from outside the cartridge. In use the cartridge assembly is housed in a dispenser.

  • Patent number: 4431326
Abstract: A liquid container containing liquid, such as paint, to be applied to a surface includes a radially inwardly facing sealing wall on the top of the container extending in a complete circle around the center of the container. An aperture is provided in the top of the container inside the sealing wall. The sealing wall has a depth of at least 4 mm and there is a free space projecting at least 4 mm radially inwardly of the sealing wall and extending in a complete circle around the inside of the sealing wall. In use the container is housed in an outer vessel, a conduit passes through the outer vessel and the top of the container to the bottom of the container, and a pressurizing assembly is provided for applying pressure inside the container. The outer vessel includes a circular seal member mounted on a radially outwardly facing wall extending downwardly from the top of the vessel and cooperating with the sealing wall on the liquid container.

  • Patent number: 4422788
Abstract: A portable apparatus for feeding liquid under pressure to an applicator, comprises a vessel having a pressurizing assembly associated therewith, the assembly having a housing for receiving a capsule of pressurized gas and having pressure reducing means. A first fluid path extends from the high pressure side of the pressure reducing means and communicates with the outlet of the capsule inserted, in use, in the housing. The vessel has defined therein a first chamber and a second chamber, the second chamber containing, in use, the liquid to be fed to the applicator. A diaphragm is disposed between the first and second chambers. A second fluid path extends from the low pressure side of the pressure reducing means and communicates with the second chamber.

  • Patent number: 4370997
Abstract: A pressure regulator and safety valve assembly comprises pressure regulating means and safety valve means. The pressure regulating means is so coupled to the safety valve means that the pressure at which the safety valve means opens varies independence upon the setting of the pressure regulating means. The safety valve means includes a safety valve member mounted for movement relative to a static surface between a closed position in which the safety valve member seals against the static surface and an open position in which the safety valve member is spaced from the static surface.
