  • Patent number: 6196486
Abstract: A coil-laying head for a wire-coiling apparatus has a tubular body centered on and rotatable about an axis, a generally spiral guide tube having an inlet end at the axis and an outlet end opening generally tangentially of the axis at a radial spacing from the axis, and a helicoidal mounting plate having an inner edge fixed to the body and an outer edge secured to the tube. A helicoidal counterweight plate is fixed to the tubular body diametrally opposite the mounting plate and has radial and axial dimensions, at least one of which varies such that any section of the counterweight plate counterbalances a corresponding diametrally opposite section of the guide tube and mounting plate. The counterweight plate has a resonant frequency and the body has a nominal maximum rotation speed that is less than the resonant frequency.

  • Patent number: 6196100
Abstract: A device and a method for cutting a continuously travelling wire which emerges in the form of windings from a winding layer, wherein a cutting device arranged immediately following the winding layer. The cutting device includes a catching device for the targeted grasping of a winding arch and a device for cutting this winding arch. A device for controlling the sequence of movement of the catching and cutting devices are provided. The control takes place, for example, in dependence on the wire properties, such as, the wire diameter in the case of dimensional inaccuracies. In addition, the catching and cutting devices can be controlled in dependence on the position of operation of the winding layer.

  • Patent number: 6179237
Abstract: An apparatus for coiling a continuously arriving wire has a main support rotatable about an axis and having mounting formations and a head carried on the support and having mounting formations engaging the support mounting formations. A guide tube is fixed on the head and has an intake end aligned with the axis and closely juxtaposed with the main support and an outlet end axially spaced from the intake end and opening tangentially offset from the axis. A releasable fastener engaged between the support and the head presses the head mounting formations against the support mounting formations.

  • Patent number: 6158683
Abstract: Successive rolled wire rod turns from a substantially horizontal conveyor are collected in an upright coiling chamber and are guided onto the coil on a support plate in this chamber by a plurality of angularly spaced arms swingably mounted outside the chamber and reaching into the chamber through slits in the chamber wall. The arms are displaced by a drive acting on the back portions of the arms, i.e. the portions opposite that engaging the turns.

  • Patent number: 6056225
Abstract: A winding cone in a high speed wire rod rolling mill has a replaceable glide shell which is suspended by a cable and can be dropped into the mounting pockets on opposite sides of the winding cone. By changing the angle of conicity of the glide shell and its length, i.e. by substituting a differently dimensioned glide shell between winding cone and the cooling conveyor, a change in the coiling program can be facilitated.

  • Patent number: 5934594
Abstract: A coiler in wire rolling trains includes a laying pipe support supporting a laying pipe, wherein the laying pipe support includes a support disk holding the wire insertion pipe member. The support disk is coupled for rotation with a rotating insertion sleeve for this pipe member, wherein the insertion sleeve supplies the wire, and wherein the support disk is connected coaxially with a cantilever projection which receives the laying arm portion of the laying pipe. The coiler includes a cylindrical or truncated cone-shaped surrounding body extending around the laying pipe support at a radial distance, wherein an end opening facing the insertion sleeve is releasably and attachably connected to the support disk of the laying pipe support, and wherein air passage openings are arranged in the wall of the surrounding body.

  • Patent number: 5897071
Abstract: Wires are coiled by rotating about a main axis a curved laying tube having an upstream end opening generally at the axis and directed axially upstream and a downstream end opening radially offset from the axis and directed generally tangentially and feeding a leading end of the wire into the tube upstream end so that the wire issues from the downstream end of the tube in a curved condition and is laid in a succession of turns on a surface below the downstream end. Passage of a trailing end of the wire through the laying tube is detected and a drum having an inner surface directed toward and centered on the axis at the tube downstream end is closed around the downstream end of the tube to confine the wire inside the drum as passage of the trailing end through the laying tube is detected. The drum is opened from around the downstream end of the tube after passage of the trailing end through the tube and the drum is held open until detection of passage of another trailing end through the tube.

  • Patent number: 5282405
Abstract: A rotating cropping and sampling shear for rapidly running rolling stock, particularly for wire and/or bar steel is disclosed. The shear has a blade support rotatable in a shear housing and is constructed in a hollow-cylindrical manner. The shear has a ring blade whose cutting edge rotates at the hollow-cylindrical wall of the blade support, a blade drum which is axially spaced from the blade support and is rotatable in the same rotational plane and includes a ring blade arranged at the outer circumference whose cutting edge runs along the outer wall of the drum. The rolling stock is guided in the space between the blade support and the blade drum. The blade support or the blade drum can be displaced axially relative to one another and one inside the other by a displacing device.

  • Patent number: 4011780
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for trimming and or subdividing rod or other similar mill products at a coil forming station. The rod, which may have previously been formed into overlapping rings on a conveyor, is carried to the upper end of an upstanding cylindrical chamber overlying an axially aligned mandrel. The rings drop from the conveyor through the chamber onto the mandrel where they are collected in coil form. Separating fingers are movable into the chamber to temporarily interrupt the descent of rings therethrough, with the rings above the separating fingers being connected to the rings accumulated around the underlying mandrel by a single connecting strand. Pivotal arms, preferably sickle-shaped, are movable beneath the separating fingers across the path of ring descent. Each pivotal arm carries a shear blade which cooperates with a stationary shear blade located at the periphery of the path of ring descent.
