  • Patent number: 5350598
Abstract: A drum is provided on its surface with depressions corresponding to the portions of a web not to be coated and is partially enclosed by a chamber in which separating agent is evaporated. The depressions capture vapor as the drum is rotated, and the web is passed over the drum where it is not enclosed by the chamber. Separating agent condenses on selective of the web correspond to the depressions, and a functional coating is subsequently applied. Thereafter the functional coating is removed from the areas where the separating agent was applied.

  • Patent number: 5223038
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for producing metal-free strips on film webs coated in a vacuum, particularly for capacitors comprising a housing that can be pressure-tight sealed. The apparatus has a device for taking in the film web and also comprises an evaporating source provided in the housing with at least one nozzle 36 for the application of the evaporating agent onto the passing web of film. The nozzle, for this purpose, comprises one or several openings 58 extending over the entire width of the film web through which the agent is applied onto the film web by vapor deposition.

  • Patent number: 5198032
Abstract: The invention relates to a tape vapor coating apparatus for the production of film webs 50 coated in a vacuum, with a coating chamber for the accommodation and advancement of a film web 50 as well as an evaporation source 19 provided in the housing and having at least one evaporating cell 21, at least one recess 15 being provided in the evaporating cell 21 to accommodate the substance that is to be evaporated. In the recess 15 of the evaporating cell 21 for the accommodation of the substance to be evaporated there is provided an additional, groove-like recess 14.

  • Patent number: 5179622
Abstract: A series evaporator for vacuum vapor-deposition apparatus has several evaporators 5 with individual power control, heated by passing through a current, supported on column-like, electrical supply lines 3, 4 wherein the column-like supply lines 3, 4 are held by an electrically conductive support body 6 extending over the entire length of the series evaporator, and the supply lines 3 of the one polarity are connected to the support body 6 in an electrically conductive manner whereas the supply lines 4 of the other polarity pass through the support body 6 in an insulated manner and connected to conducting wires 7 disposed in an insulated manner.

  • Patent number: 4979468
Abstract: An apparatus for coating both sides of strips in a vacuum with zinc includes a casing which encloses a coating chamber and a winding chamber, a removable cover disposed on at least one side of the casing for pressure-tight sealing the coating and winding chambers, a winding assembly having rotatably supported deflecting rollers, guide rollers, tensioning rollers, and coating drums and a take-off and a take-up roll and evaporating sources disposed in the coating chamber. These evaporating sources are provided with a nozzle lip 60 including two L-shaped profile ledges 63 which are parallel to one another and kept in a spaced-apart relationship by means of tranversely disposed spacing screws 65 and adjusting nuts 66. The width of the nozzle gap 67 formed by the two profile ledges 63 can be changed by turning the adjusting nuts 66 on the spacing screws 65. The nozzle lip is spaced by a slot (S) from a frame part.
