  • Patent number: 6619016
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for filling and capping containers, preferably screw top bottles, that are closed with a cap-like closing element preferably a screw cap. The invention achieves a more secure closure and a more hygienic mouth area. The method includes the following steps a) after the filling has been completed, the liquid in the bottles is allowed to foam, with minimized overflow of the foaming liquid, b) a first cap part is applied to the mouth of the bottle to stop the foam, thus forming a sealing fit on the mouth of the bottle, c) when the mouth of the bottle has been sealed by the first cap part, any traces of liquid and/or foam that may remain on the mouth of the bottle are sprayed, off, and d) the actual main cap is applied to the mouth of the bottle, without introducing any additional oxygen into the mouth of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 5558138
Abstract: Process and apparatus for the cleaning of container handling machines such as beverage can filling machines. In the beverage industry, it is conventional to subject the container handling machines to an intensive cleaning. For this purpose, the prior art discloses washing containers which, by means of ball catches or other types of connections, are fastened to the individual handling stations or filling valves. This fastening is accomplished either by hand or by placing the washing containers on the support plate for the cans or bottles, whereby the washing containers are moved into the lower portion of the filling mechanism by means of elevating mechanisms. One disadvantage of this method is that the majority of the work involved in inserting the washing containers must be done manually.

  • Patent number: 5413153
Abstract: A container filling machine for filling beverages into containers has a filler valve configured for allowing the valve to operated by a simplified control system. The valve has a valve body and a gas pipe disposed concentrically therewith, wherein there is a first spring for applying a biasing force between the gas pipe and the valve body to bias the valve body to its closed position, and a second spring, which when compressed by a control cam when there is a container present provides a force sufficient to overcome the biasing force of the first spring and thereby open the valve. In the absence of a container, the control cam for opening the valve body is able to run through its normal operation cycle without causing the valve to be opened because the gas pipe is configured to hold the valve body closed under a force applied by pressurized gas in the filling machine.

  • Patent number: 5241996
Abstract: In an apparatus for filling liquid into containers subject to counter pressure, parts of the apparatus which could initiate turbulences are located out of the path of liquid flow. The displacement of the part out of the path of flow is significant in beverages containing fruit pulp and in other beverages. The apparatus includes springs providing weight compensation for a movable valve body and a gas valve. These springs are located above the liquid level in the vessel and bear against an abutment face on the valve body and on the gas valve.

  • Patent number: 5119853
Abstract: An apparatus for filling cans with a liquid such as beer or soft drinks. The filling machine includes a turntable having a surface to support a plurality of open top cans and a reservoir containing a liquid is spaced above the supporting surface. A plurality of filling heads are mounted on the reservoir and serve to dispense the liquid into the individual cans. Each filling head includes a spring loaded cylindrical tulip adapted to seal against the upper edge of the can and a vent tube and fill tube are disposed concentrically within the tulip. The lower end of the vent tube communicates with the can while the upper end is sealed against the surface of the reservoir and when the sealing engagement is released the vent tube communicates with the headspace of the reservoir. The lower end of the fill tube carries a valve that controls flow of liquid from the reservoir into the can.

  • Patent number: 4679603
Abstract: A filling valve fills liquid from a filling machine vessel into containers. When the filling valve is opened a complete pressure equalization takes place between the vessel and the container to be filled. The container is held in the filling position by a vertically movable centering member. At the end of the filling operation, with the centering member still holding the container, a return gas tube extending into the container can be emptied and the volume of the container above the liquid level can be relieved without any inflow of atmospheric air. Further, the usual expansion below the liquid level is avoided. The centering member along with the filling valve can be lowered into the filling position by a cam disc and a pressure spring and/or assisted by the overpressure within the filling machine vessel. After movement by the cam disc the centering member and filling valve can be pressed against the container opening by the pressure spring and/or the pressure in the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4653551
Abstract: In a filling machine for filling liquid into containers, such as bottles or the like, the lower end of a return gas tube inserted into the container determines the filling height. Rapid adjustment of the position of the lower end of the return gas tube can be provided when different sized containers are used in the filling machine. Two different adjustment devices are used, one for the movement of the return gas tube with a centering device which holds the container during the filling operation and another one for producing precise adjustment of the lower end of the return gas tube with respect to the desired filling height and with such movement being relative to the centering device in the container holding position.

  • Patent number: 4635690
Abstract: In a rotating machine for filling liquid into bottles in similar containers, a centering member including the filling valve is vertically movable between a lower centering or holding position and an upper release position. The centering member in the lower position seals the bottles during the filling operation. Accordingly, a large number of centering members and filling valves are located next to one another on the periphery of the machine. When the filling operation takes place under counterpressure, there is the danger of bottles breaking and damaging the centering members. Accordingly, a control support block on the machine includes a guide bushing laterally enclosing the centering member in its upper position. The lower section of the centering member projects from the guide bushing in the lower centering position.
