  • Patent number: 4690320
Abstract: A method of bonding two metallic members at least one of which is of a porous structure. The method comprises steps of using, as the brazing material, a metallic material containing an eutectic alloy which contains an element having a superior diffusion property to the porous metallic member or, alternatively, an alloy which can form the eutectic alloy, placing the brazing material between the metallic members, heating the brazing material and the metallic members to a temperature above the melting point of the brazing material, and cooling the metallic members and the brazing material.

  • Patent number: 4678633
Abstract: A process for forming a sintered layer on a substrate of an iron-based material containing carbon. A sheet of powders of an alloy is prepared by mixing the powders with a solution of resin and rolling the mixture into a sheet. The sheet is then heated to a sintering temperature. In order to prevent carbon content in the substrate from diffusing to the powder sheet during the sintering process, a lamina is provided beneath the powder sheet for example by a metal plating, a metal oxide layer, an intermediate alloy powder sheet, a decarbonized layer.

  • Patent number: 4670215
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for forming a wear-resistant, sintered layer on a metallic substrate. The process comprises steps of adhesively attaching to a surface of metallic substrate an alloy particle sheet containing 94 to 99 weight % of ternary eutectic alloy particles and 6 to 1 weight % of acryl binder, heating in a non-oxidating atmosphere to a temperature of 150.degree. to 380.degree. C. and holding at the temperature for at least 5 minutes, and heating a sintering temperature of the alloy particles.

  • Patent number: 4646811
Abstract: A process of forming a high alloy layer on a surface of an aluminum alloy casting. The process comprises steps of providing a mixture of fine powders having an average powder size finer than 10 microns, preferably finer than 1.0 micron, of an alloying metal or an alloying alloy and an acrylic binder, shaping the mixture into a sheet, heat treating the sheet at 150.degree. to 380.degree. C. for more than 5 minutes, placing the heat treated sheet on a surface of a casting mould or a chilling block, and casting molten aluminum alloy.

  • Patent number: 4608225
Abstract: A composition for fixing a metal powder molding at sintering, which is used, in the case of disposing a metal powder molding formed by rolling a mixture of a metal powder and a synthetic resin-based binder on a metal base material and sintering the metal powder molding in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, by interposing between the metal powder molding and the base material, comprising a thermosetting resin composition containing a thermosetting resin as the essential component, the amount of the residual carbon of which after the completion of sintering is at least about 0.5% by weight.

  • Patent number: 4596692
Abstract: A process for forming a wear-resistant, sintered layer on an iron based substrate which comprises steps of providing a first alloy sheet containing 94 to 99 weight % of Fe-Cr type alloy particles and 6 to 1 weight % of acryl binder and a second alloy sheet containing 94 to 99 weight % of eutectic alloy particles and 6 to 1 weight % of acryl binder, placing the first and second alloy sheets in a superposed condition on the substrate, and heating in a non-oxidating atmosphere to a temperature which is higher than a solidus temperature of the eutectic alloy but lower than a solidus temperature of the Fe-Cr type alloy.

  • Patent number: 4596746
Abstract: A metal powder sheet for use for forming a sintered layer on a metal substrate. The sheet includes powders of a metal which provides a required physical property such as wear-resistance and ultra-fine powders of a metal having a powder size finer than 1 micron. These powders are kneaded with an addition of an acryl resin as a binder. The ultra-fine powders make it possible to carry out the sintering process at a lower temperature.

  • Patent number: 4591480
Abstract: A method for sealing porous metals, which comprises applying powder of a eutectic alloy containing an element having a good diffusibility in a porous metal or powder of a mixture of metals capable of forming the eutectic alloy, to the surface of a porous metal member and heating the surface applied with the powder at a temperature higher than the eutectic temperature of the eutectic alloy to thereby cause the molten eutectic alloy to intrude into pores from the surface of the porous metal member, whereby the melting point of the molten alloy in the pores is promptly increased by diffusion of the element in the porous metal member to solidify the molten metal in the pores, sealing only pores present in the vicinity of the surface of the porous metal member.
