  • Patent number: 7900372
Abstract: A clothes dryer has horizontally extending louvres located in its rear cabinet wall that permit ambient air to enter the dryer cabinet during normal dryer operation. U-shaped cover brackets are positioned to horizontally extend and cover the louvres where the brackets each define a horizontally extending airflow channel having opposing open ends. Air entering the dryer flows through the louvres along the airflow channels and out through the open ends. The cover bracket helps to contain a fire within the dryer cabinet should one occur by restricting flow of ignited particles and other debris as a result of a fire from exiting through the louvre.

  • Patent number: 7895771
Abstract: A clothes dryer has a thermal insulation pad placed in a confined space in the dryer cabinet between the blower fan housing and the dryer cabinet side wall closest to the blower fan housing. The thermal insulation pad is press fit into the space so as to take up much of the volume of the confined space preventing the accumulation of dust or lint over time in the confined space while also preventing the flow of oxygen to the confined space. Accordingly, the thermal insulation pad reduces the risk of a fire starting in the confined area of the dryer cabinet between the blower wheel housing and the adjacent side wall of the cabinet. A thermal insulation pad also acts as sound insulation.

  • Publication number: 20100192404
Abstract: A dryer fire protection system has a control circuit for controlling power supplied from a source, via a power cord comprising a neutral line and at least one entry live line, to a load connected with the neutral line and at least one load live line. The control circuit has a relay comprising an electromagnet and a normally closed switch, when the electromagnet is de-energized, to allow power to flow between the entry live line and corresponding load live line. An electromagnet control circuit connected between the entry line and neutral line has a plurality of normally open thermostats in parallel and mounted within the cabinet external of a drum and ducting associated therewith. Power is normally disconnected from the electromagnetic circuit to de-energize the electromagnet. Excessive cabinet heat closes at least one thermostat to power the electromagnet circuit to energize the electromagnet to open the switch.

  • Patent number: 6739069
Abstract: An automatic clothes dryer has a drying cycle followed by a cool down cycle where the cool down cycle is terminated when the sensed output temperature of the dryer drum falls below a default temperature value preselected or altered by user. This permits the user to adjust the termination cool down cycle temperature to the user's preference and touch sensitivity to the warmth of clothing removed from the dryer. The user adjusts the setting of a user variable selection device on the dryer control panel to a preferred temperature signal representing the desired temperature of articles in the dryer when the cool down cycle is terminated. The dryer has a comparator that is connected to the outlet thermistor for receiving the sensed signal representing the temperature of the air leaving the drum and that is connected to the user variable selection device for receiving the user preferred temperature signal.
