Abstract: A method of determining the displacement of a component within a device during operation of the device, the method comprising the steps of: obtaining a first x-ray image of the device while the device is in a first operation state; obtaining a second x-ray image of the device while the device is in a second operation state different to the first operation state; processing each of the first and the second image, wherein the processing comprises applying a filter obtained based on the noise of the image and a frequency characteristic of the image; superimposing the first and the second images to align a predetermined point in each of the first and the second images; and measuring the displacement of an edge associated with the component between the first and the second image to obtain the displacement of the component within the device during operation of the device.

Abstract: A root crop washer has a rotatable washing drum which is partially immersed in a water trough, and a stone separator mounted before an inlet of the drum. A loading hopper is provided for delivering a root crop to the stone separator. An elevator is mounted at an outlet of the washing drum for discharge of cleaned produce from an outlet of the washing drum. Rotating paddles within the stone separator impart a swirling motion about a vertical axis to water in the stone separator. The root crop is supported by the water and moved around an inner sidewall of the stone separator between an inlet and an outlet of the stone separator. At the same time unwanted heavier material such as stones and clay falls downwardly through the stone separator for discharge through a waste outlet at a bottom of the stone separator.

Abstract: A plurality of heat resistant tiles are provided which combine to form an internal liner around the walls of an annular combustor. In a first embodiment a plurality of tiles are arranged in an overlapping relationship to form a fully annular shield around an upstream bulkhead wall. In a second embodiment a plurality of tiles are arranged row by row in an overlapping relationship to form a protective shield around the combustors radially spaced sidewalls. In both embodiments the tiles are attached to the combustor in such a manner that at least one edge of the tiles is clamped against the combustor by an overlapping portion of a neighboring tile. The underside of the tile is exposed to a high pressure flow of cooling air which issues as a film over the exposed surface of the tile. The underside of each tile is sealed by virtue of the clamping effect holding the overlapping edges of adjacent tiles in sealing engagement.
