    Abstract: A novel acidic etching bath composition is disclosed consisting of an acid e.g. sulphuric acid and an unsaturated alcohol e.g. but-2-ene-1,4,-diol, allyl alcohol, propargyl alcohol or but-2-yne-1,4-diol. Etching plating and enamelling procedures are disclosed for producing enamel coatings with improved adhesion to steel substrates.
